IMO, yes to both the above, and more. > I have always held in my mind that it was a way to open one to the > influences of Kundalini, but I am not the experienced one in this. The initiations at various degrees, at least in the MoE, which are the only ones I can speak about with any personal knowledge, work on/with the energies of various chakras. I've been doing chakra exercises for quite some time, and still--or maybe *because* of that--found myself amazed by the intensity of the experience. > Who decides when you are to be initiated? Does it ever occur or is > it possible for someone to be initiated before the "right" time? Are It's mostly the candidate him/herself who decides when to be initiated. There are time constraints placed on some of the degrees--or at least recommended time constraints. The discretion of the initiator would, of course, come into play if it seemed necessary, althought I've never seen an initiator refuse anyone who felt ready to move up, personally. Different local bodies put their own spin onthings; for instance, I took Minerval and First the same night, as I hung around and 'investigated' without having formally initiated to 0 till I felt sure the O.T.O. was what I really wanted. By that time, I was ready to commit 'alla de way,' and so went for 0/I. I understand that some local bodies don't offer this, wanting the candidate to fully experience the effects of Minerval before taking First. If the initiate is open-minded and honest about their own personal state, I don't think they would initiate before they were 'ready,' although I'm sure in an Order this size, it happens from time to time. Even then, who's to say? It might have been more optimal for someone to wait a while before seeking tghe next degree, but there's no reason they can't 'catch up' on the 'internal initiation' plane if it is their Will. In my own case, I'm preparing to take IInd very soon, and have had very clear experience of 'being at First,' with all the things that degree represents, and for a couple months now have had an equally clear experience of resolving many of the issues around First that needed resolving in my personal case, and doing the portion of the Work that seems suited to holders of that Degree. I've been very strongly 'feeling' myself becoming 'ready' for IInd...in my own case, I thinkthe timing is about perfect. > periods between initiations excessively long (in your experience), > because I hear from and meet quite a few people involved in the > first 4 degrees(including minerval), but have not met anyone higher. > What is your opinion for the reasons behind this. Do people quit > or are they just not deemed worthy (for lack of a better word) to > advance? It's possible that you may have met people of higher degrees, who simply tend not to advertise it. I've met, spoken with, or had net-contact with several, myself. I really don't think, although I don't *know*, that not very many who have initiated to the IVth degree quit the Order. I haven't gotten that high myself yet, so couldn't speculate about the 'waiting periods' involved between First and Second Triads. Truth to tell, at this point it's not of much interest to me...I'm working on trying to learn and experience as much as I possibly can, and not paying a lot of mind to whether it's 'degree-appropriate'...if I can handle it, it's appropriate for *me*, and if I can't, then it doesn't matter whether other people at my formal stage of initiation can, *I'm* not ready yet, so I work on advancing at my own pesonal rate. Most of the people I've met within the Order seem to share similar feelings about personal *inner* advancement. 93 93/93 201434369420143436942014343694201434369420143436942014343694718 From: Rebis Area: Thelema To: The Cegorach 18 Dec 94 14:18:36 Subject: Re: RANDOLPH UpdReq Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law. The book called "Sexual Magic" attributed to him and published by Magickal [sic] Child is probably in reality a work by Maria de Naglowska, founder of the luciferian "Confraternity of the Knights of the Golden Arrow", based on ideas from "Eulis" and "Seership", and _possibly_ from some of the working papers of Randolph's Brotherhood of Eulis.
