ShBO is Seven (Pronounced >JN> >Shebal (feminine form))... That's all I can find, but admittedly my >JN> >Hebrew notes are pretty lax... Heck, I don't even remember what the >JN> >compounding structure in Hebrew is! KL>JN>ShBO also means "satisfied" or "satiated". There is a Biblical reference >JN>to a "BAR ShBO", meaning the Fountain of Satiety, or some such. KL>Bar ShBO sounds like the male equivalent of "Bathsheba" (= seventh >daughter). It could mean "seventh son", with "fountain of satiety" >being a slang meaning. (Shabbat, meaning to cease, specifically >to cease working, may derive from the same root as ShBO.) Since I don't speak Hebrew, I can't argue with you! But "satisfied" is what my Hebrew-English dictionary says it means. "BAR ShBO" is also in Sepher Sephiroth, according to my database, with a phrase in latin as its "translation". I don't recall what the latin said, and can't find my copy of SS, but maybe you can check it out. * SLMR 2.1a * How do I get OFF this planet?? 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718 From: Kirk Biglione Area: Thelema To: Vitriol 26 Aug 92 08:26:00 Subject: The Kybalion UpdReq I haven't actually gotten around to reading this one yet, but I've seen it referenced many places. Wang speaks highly of it in his Qabbalistic Tarot and recapitulates the major points of this work. As for "the Three Initiates" I have heard no solid evidence of who they might be. I do know that the book is also available through BOTA. BOTA was founded by Paul Foster Case. Case was extremely prolific during his career and chose to leave his name off of much of the work that he published. This has lead me to speculate that Case might be one of the initiates. Possibly the only one. The excerpts that I have read seem to be along the same lines as much of Case's writting. ___ X SLMR 2.1 X 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718 From: Vitriol Area: Thelema To: Josh Norton 25 Aug 92 08:25:04 Subject: Traffic UpdReq -=> Josh Norton sent a message to Neuro Sonic on 08-23-92 13:45 <=- -=> Re: Traffic <=- JN> Hey, you mean I'M responsible for the lack of messages? Sorry, bro. In fact, I've picked up some good stuff there: The Kybalion, Bardo Thodol, an imported hardcover of Pauwels and Bergier (titled "The Dawn of Magick", not "Morning of the Magicians"), de Givry's "Illustrated Anthology...", some Time-Life type books on "The Tree of Life" and Alchemy, a beautiful slipcased copy of the Malleus Malificarum, Papus' Tarot, Cavendish's "Black Arts" (good for a laugh), Fort's "Book of the Damned", 2/3 of the Illuminatus trilogy, "The Diviner's Handbook", "The 12th Planet" (this one's a scream), and various astrology, wicca (if you can find it, and I notice you didn't want the Frosts' book either ), and Oriental stuff, and all the Zelazny I can find. And so on. Speaking of books, I see that the annual Goodwill book sale is scheduled for Oct.1-6 at the DC Convention Center: 125,000 new and used books, libretti, stamps, software, and art. Az> Unfortunately, I know little about those 'Three Initiates', but I like From a cursory paging through it, it looks sorta like "Hermes for the Masses". Since the AMORC have always been the new-agers of their time, the glosses on the original text (why couldn't they have included a copy, instead of excerpting it?) are rather icky, but it's an interesting little piece anyway. More so than something I picked up called "Unto Thee I Grant", which you may have run across. More "Toshosophistic" googoo philosophy, like recycled bits of Polonius' outtakes: "Promises of Hope are sweeter than the rose in the bud, and far more flattering to expectation, but the threatenings of Fear are a cross upon which the rose is crucified."
