Yes, I did hear about the FBI report, which you would think would clear
the whole mess up.  Still, though, there are enough cases of social
workers and local police taking children away from their parents because
of "satanic abuse" despite the FBI's findings.

Strictly speaking, we have - as evidenced by the FBI's Lanning Report of 1992, 
Jeffrey Victor's _Satanic Panic_, Robert Hicks' _In Pursuit of Satan_, and a
host of journalistic articles on the subject. That some people still try to
sell the "Satanic abuse" theme in the USA is due simply to the lure of "the
usual suspects" - money, publicity, a feeling of power, etc. But now that most 
such attempts have been directed against [non-Satanic] parents, to say nothing 
of the organized Christian churches, it's but a question of time before the
fad is socially squashed.
