Postscript to the 6-part message I posted to you yesterday in reply
to Dr. Aquino's comments on my _Abrasax_ column:
.I said I wasn't going to change my wording on Aquino's claims
regarding LaVey's pre-1975 beliefs.
.On second thought, I _will_ change my wording.  At the very least,
I'll say "Dr. Aquino has claimed ..." rather than "Dr. Aquino 
claims ..." when talking about his past claims (i.e. that LaVey
wasn't always consistent about his professed disbelief in Satan as
a literal entity) rather than his present, more extreme claim (that
LaVey consistently did believe in Satan as a literal entity and made
this clear to the general public).
.I'll mention Aquino's present claim too, saying something to the
effect that Aquino now says LaVey _consistently_ believed in Satan
as a literal entity, whereas at other times (e.g. in "Black Magic in
Theory and Practice" in _The_Crystal_Tablet_) Aquino has seemed to
be claiming merely that LaVey was ambivalent about Satan's literal
existence.  (I'll try to say this without harping on how he's
contradicting himself.)
.I was at first reluctant to change this portion of my column, due to
my general preference for the least-inflammatory version of any
accusation when more than one version is available in print
(especially when the more-inflammatory versions appear to contradict
the public record).  Note that _either_ version of Aquino's claim is
an implied accusation that LaVey _lied_ about his beliefs in
_The_Satanic_Bible_ and has been lying about his pre-1975 beliefs
ever since 1975.
.Have I just now spurred the next revision of BMT&P?
