Schoch, a professor at Boston University, concerning the age of the Sphinx. Upon reading in the popular press that Schoch's field trip had been initiated by John Anthony West (author of #2AB) many professional Egyptologists immediately dismissed his astounding thesis as fringe science. KMT approached Professor Schoch and asked to see the original paper. It proved to be of sufficiently high scientific quality to merit serious discussion. Professor Schoch believes, on the basis of examination of limestone weathering data at the site, seismic studies, and comparison with other monuments in the area, that the initial carving of the Sphinx took place somewhere between 7000 and 5000 BCE, possibly as early as 9000 BCE. Khafre (Khufu) was not the builder of the Sphinx, but the first of many Pharoahs to undertake repair and modification, adding the granite that now covers the deeply weathered limestone forming the core of the Sphinx. Schoch admits that his calculations conflict with current views of Predynastic Egypt. Other Neolithic artifacts in the Nile Valley give no hint of the level of organization needed to build this monument. He points out that these scanty fragments may not be an accurate reflection, and points to Catul Huyuk and ancient Jericho as centers of civilization existing in the eastern Mediterranean in Neolithic times. Jericho is particularly significant given massive stone architecture there dating from 8000 BCE. Schoch ends the article with suggestions for further geological studies and isotope dating of surfaces and mortar to clarify, prove or disprove his thesis. Xeper. UpdReq Hi all... 'Been receving this echo about a week now... reminds me a lot of the Fido Bible echo I dropped a long time ago. Makes me wonder if it were not for Christians, Satanists would cease to be, and vise versa. ( I will say, at least the anti-Christian folks here have the balls to say what they really think.. without dressing there comments in enduendo and "nice" sociable terms.) Peace... mk Can anyone tell me why Wiccan folks (in general) are not real fond of Satanists?
