See DV> the messages I posted above to Lewis Stead, especially "Thorsson (2 DV> of 2)". I feel it's self-serving from a long-term point of view also. L.S. is working to establish Asatru specifically, and Paganism in general, as valid religions and forms of personal activity in today's society. I've been doing the same for the Temple of Set specifically, and Satanism in general, for twice as long (leaving the job of representing generic Paganism and its various classes to those better suited to that task). I work well with Pagans of all flavors in these efforts, but have difficulty understanding a heathen :^) who seems to refuse to recognize the pre-Christian roots of modern Satanism in general, and the Temple of Set specifically. (To clarify personal issues, I have no personal problem with L.S. -- I respect the image he casts on the echoes. I have a problem with his statements concerning Satanism found in this thread.) If the Temple of Set claimed no connection to a more general Prince of Darkness, but limited their attention to the specific Egyptian Prince of Darkness known as Set, and loudly denounced the Christian corruption of that Form as having nothing at all to do with the Egyptian Prince of Darkness, would we then be acceptable to L.S.? And if so, then why the differentiation? DV> B > but the more important question is, "Is Satanism a DV> form of Paganism?" ... I suspect DV> Diane Vera would claim that Satanism as she practices it is DV> as valid a subgroup of Paganism as Asatru. DV> . DV> No, I wouldn't, at least not anymore. ... Then what is it that differentiates the "new" Satanic D.V. from the "old" neo-Pagan (with Satanic tendencies) D.V., such that you are no longer neo-Pagan? I know why *I* consider myself to be non-Pagan, but I thought from your definitions of Satanism, that your personal form of Satanism would still fit within the generic description of neo-Paganism. Apparently my understanding is far from complete. Please elucidate. Thanks. Balanone PP ... Being Maximus, BaphoNet supports at least the QWK system of readers, and probably also BlueWave. I know that using some offline readers it's extremely easy to send the same response to more than one echo (I did it with SLMR before moving to BlueWave myself). Assuming you can get an offline reader compatible with your computer system, you might find it useful. For instance, I caught your postings in RUNES AND ASATRU only because I always do a mail scan upon entry to Northern Lights, and one of those messages was for me. So before downloading my mail, I told BlueWave to include all messages in R&A since my last poll of that echo (I had stopped looking at it a week or two back, just before Grendel's first cross-post). That was first thing this morning. I then took the messages and my reader to work on a floppy disk. I'm now able to read those messages during my breaks, and respond to them here at work. I'm able to scan through R&A, reading only those messages that pertain to this thread. I won't complete my mail scan today at work (I have three days of mail to go through), but should finish it tonight at home with no problem. Then I'll have BlueWave upload and post all of that mail for me when I next dial into Northern Lights. Not everyone can use offline readers (some have incompatible home computers), but those who can will probably benefit from getting a good one (ask your sysop for suggestions, or ask other users).
