To search the servers try using Telnet to archie.sura.net Login as ARCHIE [no PW] and use PROG XXXX where XXXX can be a shred of a filename. The * wildcard doesn't work. 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718 From: Grendel Area: RPSTOVAL To: Tesla Coil 27 Sep 92 07:22:00 Subject: BBS Freedom of Speech UpdReq > To search the servers try using Telnet to archie.sura.net > Login as ARCHIE [no PW] and use PROG XXXX where XXXX can be a shred > of a filename. The * wildcard doesn't work. Or you can use an Archie server if you have it set up and it will do all of the work for you from the command line on your system. Area: RPSTOVAL To: Phil Hansford 27 Sep 92 19:27:00 Subject: DRUG USE IN MAGICK UpdReq Depends on how you define magick. I don't exactly want to follow in Crowley's footsteps and get eaten by a demon; his life didn't exactly conclude on a wonderously satisfied note. I think that drugs can offer glimpses of alternative realities, and they can be useful tools, but ultimately they can't take you beyond where you're already ready to go. They can distort perception of reality as well, and magnify the ego, and I believe that they can also cause BIG and long-lasting problems when dealing with magical forces. It's hard enough keeping "outer" and "inner" reality separate. Taking a trip and engaging with less-than-friendly beings who have objective existence outside one's own head could be an initiatory experience that one would be better off not having. I basically have a horror of definitions of magic that are popular today. I don't see magic as having anything to do with creating effects based on intention or will. Despite what Crowley says. I see real magic having to do with realizing that separateness is an illusion and having to do with being able to flow the macrocosm in synchrony with one's own awareness of microcosm. Most occultists are rather powerless people. Privately, though not in his books, Regardie used to snear at most of his peers because, in his view, the majority of occultists were rather immature. He advised people to seek therapy before getting into magic. My point is that real magic is the ability to live in the REAL world on a 24 hour a day basis and REALIZE that reality is the highest high there is: it's kaleidoscopic, transformative, numinous, and thrillingly beautiful. Real magic is a function of awareness, not a function of our psychic hard-on or a function of our ability to get a buzz off of enochian calls. I see drugs as being useful tools if their use is judiciously circumscribed. Otherwise, they can lead us deeper into a proverbial hall of mirrors. . . .as your post suggests you have already come to realize. 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718 From: Darrin Hyrup Area: RPSTOVAL To: Grendel 29 Sep 92 17:56:40 Subject: Re: BBS Freedom of Speech UpdReq In a message dated 24 Sep 92 22:49:00, Grendel wrote: > I was recently on slopoke to pick up those font mentioned a few months > back, and was suprised to see all the magick related material up there. > Even a Thelema section, although that wasn't too long. nic.funet.fi > (over in finland) apparantly has a mirror of the magick directory from > slopoke, so we have a european distribution point as well. I was considering uploading all the Equinox's up there, as well as some of the other Crowley and Thelemic works I have here. But, as my FTP account is long distance, I'll probably do it a little at a time. Luckily I have a high-speed modem though, so it won't be too bad. G> I didn't know that nic.funet.fi had a mirror. Thad is cool. Yeah, I didn't either until I looked around. They apparantly 'specialize' in mirrors of obscure or specialized data. > Anyone else know good internet ftp sites to check for magick related > files? G> There is a Wiccan site as well. Let me know if you dig it up. 93, Darrin 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718 From: Darrin Hyrup Area: RPSTOVAL To: Tesla Coil 29 Sep 92 18:00:40 Subject: Re: BBS Freedom of Speech UpdReq In a message dated 27 Sep 92 01:05:00, Tesla Coil wrote: D> Anyone else know good internet ftp sites to check for magick D> related files? However, I've already checked with the archie servers... That's how I located funet. :) 93, Darrin 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718
