I use PGP 2.6.i with a 2047 bit key. I also think RSAREF doesn't work quite like RSA (the math of it) and generates different encrypted material. The - -a switch used alone is similar to UUENCODE... anyone can "decrypt" the message. :) JB>> 2. a. Don't have a copy here, so I can't give you ISBN or author, but it's one of those real thick suckers. ;) Good reading, and a fair background to modern crypto. If you're interested in the tech/programmer end of it, look for "Applied Cryptography", ISBN# 0-417-59756-2, as a starting point. Excellent overview of the theory and practice... and includes source code examples in C. The book "Hackers" is outstanding reading too... it's not about crypto, but it *is* about the people who brought 'puters outta the government controlled "dark ages". More of a "why" than a "how". :) -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: 2.6.2 Comment: -=[ Privacy Through Random Acts Of Encryption ]=- iQCVAwUBL3wo7+kStfMM4BMZAQEGHwP/fRP1fzXWM9Md7hkRL8hlLlKWI+Y5W+4V IPRVvZqKWoAKFJ2Bk2lJVgNouDQef6ROzQVY82LzU9I80ntbdjbZFkBurT/obQDf EvxkLGXhOJwOE0guhEv6PenLdvBNmbp+az32nvNDe+MFBMN5BSi7EQQYZuPzSNX1 ySp99ld5kw4= =3mWJ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- jbloss@meadville.com -=- 1:2601/551.0 -=- ->5317 PGP v2.6.2 public encryption key available by request. 201434369420143436942014343694201434369420143436942014343694718 From: Jeffrey Bloss Area: Public Key Encryption To: Alan Pugh 30 Mar 95 23:50:00 Subject: Quotes as passphrase UpdReq AP>> JB> The length of time between keystrokes allows the "remainder", if you AP>> JB> want to call it that, fall randomly on either side of the timing AP>> an excellent description of the process. this is not something that Sort of a "let the inability of a human to reproduce true patterns make up for the computer's inability to produce anything else" thingy. Some members of Fido have the theory that if they can't read the mail they may be liable if something criminal occurs. Most readings of the law suggest that this is wrong: they should not be reading the mail under the EPCA, and if they can't read mail how can they be held liable. Still, that's the Fido view. They don't want to deal with it. Quite possibly if you had sent the mail without first making a query you would have heard nothing. But it's too late now: you have shown awareness of the rules, etc. I note that you use RBBS. I don't know about that software, but UUCP works quite well for PCBoard, and a lot of boards in this area are providing internet Email by getting a connection to an internet provider and transferring mail by UUCP, polling as often as 48 times a day (every half hour). Our local users group is going to do that soon, so I will have a 4th Email address. Two of the three addresses below (Network East (neteast.com) and Between the Lines (Trinitydc.edu) are PCBoards running UUCP.
