"Indecent" and "art" are entirely a matter of opinion. Yet in this cas, opinion is a collective thing. And in these sorts of situations, collective opinions _matter_. That's the natuer of representative, democratic government. "indecent" and "art" (when we're talking about making a collective consumer choice, i.e. spending tax dollars) is what ever the majority, as represented by our elected officials, decide them to be. It sucks when you're in the mnority, but that's the nature of the beast. GDC> Actually I was saying that if you don't like it don't look at it. GDC> or listen to it. or buy it. The problem in this GDC> "democracy" as you call it, is that we have GDC> absolutely no control of how our money is spent. GDC> If I don't want my money spent on war machinery GDC> I should be able to channel my tax dollars where GDC> I feel I would best be supporting my views and GDC> interests. "We" have complete control. It's called the ballot box. Look, life's a bitch when you're in the minority. It's tough when you want to do something that your society has collectively ruled taboo. Yet what's the alternative? Do you want every Tom, Dick, or Harry making decisions that impact everyone, even if those same decisions are opposed by the majority of those being affected? If you want the latter form of government, then you are inherently in favor of dictatorships, because dictators do what they want regardless of what the majority of opeople want. GDC> Funny thing you have had the gonnads to call me GDC> a dictator but have said nothing of the Bush GDC> regime. What boat did you fall off of? Ever hear of the '88 elections? George Bush was _elected_ president. It is quite probable that he will be "unelected" in '92. Give me just one, _just one_ example of a "dictator" who has been in similar circumstances. You're confusing your lack of political "fulfilment" with dictatorship. Again, if you don't like the way the game is being played, you want to take your marbles and go home. If the "majority" wants to do something that you disagree with (casually or vehemently), you say they are all ingorant dupes, unenlightened to the "truth" as you see it. If you don't like it _vote_!!!!! Persuade, cajole, yell, scream, whatever... it doesn't make a difference unless you, and others who think like you, _become_ the majority. In a collective society, it's _only_ the majority who count. (There are some safeguards in our society, however, and they are called the Bill of Rights. They aren't fool proof, but I wouldn't want to be without them). All of this brings me full circle. I said this before, and I'll say this again. What we should fear in our society is not the dictatorship of individuals (George Bush included), but the tyranny of the masses. What do we do when the "majority" fucks up? Michael (P.S. If it is of any interest whatsoever, I will no vote for Mr. Bush, nor for Mr. Clinton. IMO Bush is a stuck-up uppity rich snob, who's sole reason for living is to "rule" over the poor, lowly, ignorant, "less fortunate" people of this country. He "knows" what's best for us, so we should just sit back and let big brother take care of anything. Mr. Clinton, on the other-hand, is a yellow-bellied, neo-scocialist, card-carrying member of the intelligentsia - you know, those grey-beard know-it-alls, who have one foot in government and one-foot in la-la-land. Not only did Mr. Clinton (and Mr. Quayle for that matter) decide that there were to "precious" to this country to put their butts on the line, but Mr. Clinton, apparently ashamed of his actions, has lied about it since day one. He's a coward, plain and simple. He's the type that would ball-up in shear terror at the prospect that his poor little body might get hurt. Ptthhhhpt!!!! on Mr. Clinton. (Also don't forget his little feminazi bitch of a wife). Well, if it's not Clinton or Bush, who then? I guess it could be Perot (but I doubt it). Probably Marou. I'm still undecided at this point, however.) 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718
