UpdReq Eric - Extraplating from "If a man holds his arms in the air and screams of wounds that never were" makign him a fool, blasphemer, dupe, etc... I gather, therefore, that if a man draws a circle, invokes a God using images that (let us say) the Egyptians never used, and manifests that God by (for example) stimulating knowledge of sciences that the Egyptians never dreamt of, then he has not invoked Thoth, but is merely a fool and a blasphemer (which is, come to think of it, a good set of words for defining a magician). You insistence that magico-religious mAnifestations must adhere to your concept of historicity instead of the individual undergoing those manifestations still smacks of a blindspot vis a vis Christianity. Sort of reverse english on the old fundie thing about miracles. If a Christian manifests a phenomenon which appears magical, it is a holy miracle. If a non-Christian does so, it is Satanic illusion and magic. You seem to be saying that if a Christian manifests a magical phenomenon, it must be trickery. If this stance on stigmata was triggered by some case of fraud, ie. an evAngelist getting caught slicing the stigmata on himself prior to showtime, well and good. This no more invalidates other cases, apparently veridical, than fraudulent magicians or con-witches invalidate the works of others. You are entirely welcome to write off the manifestations of religious mania as hysteria, as something put on, with no relationship to the actual Deity invoked, but it strikes me that you must then do so across the board, not merely in a religion of which you disapprove. TI > Both Crystal Cave and The Domestic Engineer are on the other side of the PODNet hub, so I think that in this case, as well as in the MagickNet trio, it is not a Purgatory/HaditNet/BaphoNet tech problem. .Exactly my thoughts about that particular problem, too. .However, it now appears we *do* have a HaditNet/BaphoNet technical problem. Just this morning, I called HaditNet and found some messages, in both the NIGHT_SIDE and OASIS echoes, that never made it to BaphoNet. (Last night here on BaphoNet, I was alerted to those missing messages by the usual symptom: replies to messages I hadn't seen the originals of.) .In NIGHT_SIDE, the missing messages were all posted from Purgatory. They are: (1) a string of 4 messages from Darklord, dated March 22, all on the topic of "Re: Satanism and Socialism", addressed to different people: (a) Gerald Del Campo, (b) Charles Nemo, (c) Gerald Del Campo, and (d) David Skreiner. (2) A March 8 message from Astral Invader to Triple Six, "Re: COS AND 'WHAT A SATANIST IS' (1 OF". (3) A March 13 message from Astral Invader to Nemesis "Re: ABRA-MELIN". .Here in OASIS, I found two missing messages, one from HaditNet and one from Purgatory. The one from HaditNet was a March 22 message by Coronis to Triple Six, "Will Diane Convince Tim? Film at 11". The one from Purgatory was a March 18 message from Astral Invader to Balanone, "Re: BBS / Network Access". .In both echoes (NIGHT_SIDE and OASIS), the missing messages were all adjacent to each other on HaditNet. Hence it's possible that just one day's (March 22's or March 23's) transmission between HaditNet and BaphoNet got screwed up for some reason. I'll let you know if it happens again. .Also on HaditNet, there was a notice saying they recently (in early March) installed the latest version of Maximus, which may or may not have anything to do with anything. 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718 From: Frater Almost Area: THE_OASIS To: Eric 27 Mar 92 22:46:06 Subject: Re: TO DREAMERS AND FOOLS . UpdReq Eric..... There is no need to get abusive. I should've understood that you weren't ready for such sublime magical truth. Perchance you might wish to re-read MT&P once again.... The part where Crowley is talking about saving the life of a Brother in the A.'. A.'. It might've been his spells or his shekels but, in either way, his brother did live many long years. You can find the passage in your reading.... So re-read the entire book! Further, as to my side-stepping logic..... Every sensible magician knows that magick defies logic in every way shape and form! There is no logic to magick! It is all purely subjective! (Something Bobby Meizer tried to tell me long ago but I ignored him... Now I know that it is truth.) As to "Wonderland" let me add that Yes I am In Wonderland.... My life is one stream of magical events after another..... Why just today I was in my car coming back from Huntsville and a song came on the radio.... MAGICK! Until you understand my point of view perfectly, flawlessly, and totally, don't respond! ;) Just being an ass again but an enlightened (somewhat) kind of ass. ;) Pax. 93 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718 From: Tony Iannotti Area: THE_OASIS To: Diane Vera 28 Mar 92 17:30:06 Subject: Re: More technical difficulties Rec'd Sent UpdReq -=In a missive of 28 Mar 92 10:04:12, Diane Vera said to Tony Iannotti=- (regarding Re: More technical difficulties) DV> However, it now appears we *do* have a HaditNet/BaphoNet technical DV> problem.
