Aw, cumon, Vitriol: take an Osirian to lunch (feed'm to the volcano!) If Massey and suchlike are to be believed, there's virtually nothing in Xtianity which is even vaguely original (from the bread & wine thing to the wonderfully Pagan festival days to the self-righteous arrogance which denounces all other Truths) so that the so-called Xtians are merely latter- day Osirians (in the Middle-Kingdom Egyptian sense) meddling in the affairs of their spiritual betters (in the 'rising with the new Aeon' sense) to the amusement of Those Who Know(TM). In a similar vein, have you come across the recent work of Martin Bernal? Two massive volumes of the projected four of _Black_Athena_ have already appeared (Rutgers University Press, 1987 & 1991) adducing much evidence that "Afro-Asiatic roots" were basic in the formation of Classical Greek culture (there is a fascinating back-to-back critique/counter-critique by John Coleman and Martin Bernal in the Sept/Oct 1992 Archaeology magazine.) Well worth investigating, as cultural background relevant to Achad and Grant and the 20th century Egyptian Revival, aptly named. I've seen the volumes at Brentano's, and I'll bet Border's could get them. BTW, that neat bit of punctuation (see tagline) that Grant attributed to Bertiaux, seems indeed to have originated with Achad (in the _Egyptian_Revival , of course!) Brother Josh's comment that Grant borrowed heavily from Achad, mostly without acknowledgement, seems well founded. I've nearly completed a once-through of Achad's trilogy, and come away with the feeling of having encountered many of the unstated assumptions underlying Grant's development of Magick. To read or study Grant's work without having a reasonable grounding in Crowley's has always seemed obviously pointless; as well to study Crowley's work without having a firm grasp of the Golden Dawn system. I would venture the opinion that Achad's work provides an invaluable perspective on all three. I've been on vacation the last few days, and your package is still waiting to be posted. I filled up a metal C90 with assorted favorite darkness in addition to the Crowley; hope you like it. I've recently added hardback copies of 777 and 333 to my library, so if you know anybody that needs the paperbacks... BTW, the efficacy of the new bronze phurba seems unimpaired by the absence of an iron blade; this appears to be the result of the intensely suggestive symbolism of the daemonic faces, and the identification with Hayagriva. The purely Hindu associativity of Hayagriva (a horse-headed avatar of Vishnu responsible for rescuing the demon-stolen scriptures...) seems less personally resonant than the more obscure Tibetan equivalent, Tamdin, the horse-headed demon-king with probable Bon roots, converted with many such by Padma Sambhava to a defender of the Faith. In any case, the device is effectively empowered by a deep and (temporally) remote layer of my psyche, and is quite as useful an instrument of warding as the iron equivalent. The new catalog from Atlanta Cutlery has a beautiful pair of sacrificial daggers of Aztec design (chipped obsidian blades, stabilized malachite handles) which certainly ought to be evaluated.... };-] Love is the law, love under will. ___ X JABBER v1.2 X There is no law beyond.
