From: Ammond Shadowcraft Area: Night Side To: All 7 Jul 92 07:45:00 Subject: My resignation UpdReq Dear readers, Today, the 7th of July 1992, I am resigning from the Temple of Set. While my action may seem negative with respect to the Temple of Set, my experiences with those in the Temple have been a positive influence in my Xeper. I heartily recommend the Temple of Set to those individuals who may find their journey on the Left Hand path worthwhile and enjoyable. The Temple is an honorable organization. I hope to see it prosper. The problem which exists between the Temple and myself is this; I am not a metaphysician. I have a different understanding of so- called magick. I seem to follow the paths of the Transhumanist. I do not wish to influence the members of the Temple in any untoward way. And I don't wish to be perceived as one who bitches, but doesn't do anything to fix their bitch. My special thanks go to Oz Tech, Balanone, and the members of the Gates of Hell and Sol Niger pylons. These are all honorable people who have treated me well. I hope to see them all prosper in their Xeper. While I go my separate way I will still monitor the nets and my MCI Mail account for any comments readers and Temple members may have. Thanks again goes to the Temple of Set and all the members therein. Herewith I formally resign. Thank you all. Xeper! and Remanifest... Ganley's put a lot of Lumley's Lovecraftian fiction in beautiful limited-edition hardcovers (but we're still only talking around $40 or so for signed first editions, unlike the general run of occult-flavored stuff!) including most of the Titus Crow material, the Dreamworld fantasies, and the killer of killers, _Elysia_, wherein Cthulhu and the Cthulhoids return, and all the Primal Land, Dreamworlds, and Titus Crow threads come together. Not as horrible as Lovecraft might have liked, but great fun. Lumley, at least the Lovecraftian Lumley, is probably an acquired taste, but.... They do not own any copyrights other than their own material. They do not pay for any of the material submitted. They do not have a legal leg to stand on. So you were the person Lu called me about! I just talked to the owner of Blackmoon a few days ago about this situation. From what he told me, from his perspective, it seemed that you had the best intentions. But it must be in character that he would threaten to sue you. It would seem to me that, as a supposed service to the community, that Blackmoon AND the authors of the individual archive articles would be more than happy to have their material spread as far and wide as possible. But it seems that money is involved. Yes, quite a bit of money can be made from xeroxing! What this boils down to is this: Lu has no rights except to his own material (and don't forget that Mishlen is also a part of Blackmoon). He is in the position that he can contact these authors and try to misrepresent your and others intentions so that his profits will not be cut into by the free distribution of the material. Before all this happened I also assumed that Lu was doing this all as a SERVICE to the occult community and had no idea that any real amount of money (or egos) were involved. It would be nice if "we" could also make contact with these various authors and receive permission to make the material available. It stands to reason that the said authors want this material to be distributed widely as possible, hence they submit their material to the archives. In closing, I would not worry too much about the legal threat from Lu or Blackmoon. I mean, this is all electronic shit and the proof is hard to obtain and prove.
