Socialism isn't about taxing you to pay for GD> someone elses medical care; it is about government learning to use GD> its tax payers money in a way that benefits the tax payer. Our GD> present economy is not adequate enough to ensure that anyone who may GD> want health insurance can afford it. Most people spend everything GD> they make just trying to feed their families and rent/morgage. Well if you pay the Doctors for someone's medical care why not their rent/morgage. If people are given free medical care why shouldn't everything be free. In order to give everyone adiquate helath care the federal government would have to socialize medicine which violates the doctors right to choose how much they can charge. Look at Canada, they have a shortage of doctors do to socialized medicine. People have to wait 6 months or more for routine surgery. I think it is a better idea to allow a somewhat unfair system to be in practice instead of having a shortage of care for everyone. GD> You mean it doesn't already? Some people would consider taxation GD> without representation a violation of their constitutional rights. We do have representation. If you don't like your representation do something to change it. GD> Say you want to go to school to become a rocket scientist but you GD> can't afford it. Your next door neighbor's kid, not being a 93d a GD> intelligent and capable as yourself get's to go to rocket scientist GD> school because his father has had more opportunity than you father at GD> economic growth. Unless EVERYONE has the same opportunity for GD> success we cannot say that we live in a trully Democratic society, GD> where the premise is that everyone is created equal. That is why you need to do good in school to get scholarships. If you are smart enough to be a scientist you should be able to get a scholarships. If that doesn't cover it then get a federal loan. Take Germany for example, everyone is guarenteed free college education, but their is an overflow of students. You can only take classes that are neccessary for your major and nothing else, and you must finish in 4 years. Having everything equal is not natural and does not work it is communism. GD> D> It is in my opinion that the only duty of the federal government GD> is to GD> D> profide for a national defense and to insure the protection of GD> our people GD> D> at home and abroad from agretion or violation of there human GD> rights by a GD> D> country or organazation. GD> While I agree with you here, I have to point to the fact that GD> government has been "protecting" us from made-up foes as an excuse to GD> spend billions of dollars a year on some make believe enemy. The War GD> on Drugs is a perfect indicator of the tactics our government will GD> use in order to justify spending our hard earned dollars. While GD> obscene amounts of money are being thrown away by the military, GD> thousands are going hungry. Couldn't those hungry citizens use those GD> tax dollars to feed themselves? What about those poor "expendible" GD> individuals we call soldiers who give their last drop of blood for GD> this country? is it fair that their fatherless children will not GD> recieve any compensation for their father's contribution to the GD> welfare of the country? So what thier isn't a drug problem? We should alow our people to have all the food they want plus be high? As for the poor common soldier's survivors they get military and social security compensation until they are 21. GD> I am a big believer in free will...and True Will (in case some find GD> there is a difference between terms). If it is a person's Will to GD> starve like so flea bitten dog on the streets, so be it. It is their GD> choice, and everyone has the right to make those kind of choices. GD> But what of the man, woman, or child who is starving or dying from GD> some easily corrected medical disfunction simply because they do not GD> have access to the treatment that you and I do? Well in a democratic society we can only hope to do what is best for the majority. If people die so be it. If you want everyone to have medical care and be equal move to a more communistic society. GD> There are ways to do away with free loaders. They are leeches and GD> don't deserve the scraps from our tables. And by the time they do this there would be not money for food. GD> D> I feel that the ideas of collectism that the socialist believe in GD> goes GD> D> fundalmentaly against the basic principals of human independence. GD> GD> Perhaps you are right in this statement. However, my argument is GD> that people should be given equal opportunity to succeed in society. GD> If you were in an accident and needed a heart transplant and were GD> waiting for a donor; and one of the Rothchilds suddenly needed a GD> heart: who do YOU think would get that heart? (Excuse the example, GD> it's the only one I could come up with in such short notice ;)) Well the rich one of course, but if people would go by the guidlines set up by the organ bank I would get it. It depends if they go by the guidlines or not. GD> Dependence is something that does occur in some socialist GD> societies...the intelligent ones have learned to deal with the GD> problem. GD> Dependence should not be allowed. If you have to rely on the government their is something wrong with you. Man was made to be self sufficient and if he isn't their is a defect and should not be put on the burden of the rest of society. GD> Also, you have to realize that in socialist Europe, socialism occured GD> out of necessity. Government felt compelled to accept some of the GD> burden for the lack of economic opportunity...why wont OUR government GD> share that burden instaed of getting fat on its tax payers? First of all we paid for their socialism at first. Next our more independent society has accomplished more than the whole continent of Europe. So I feel that our system must be better. And our government is not getting fat, the defict grows each day. The third largest budget in the world is the U.S. welfare area(U.S. News and World Report). Money can't solve the problem, only self independence can. GD> Our government already does this...and not because of socialism. Name one instance. GD> D> the next day they make you donate a kidney to save someones life. GD> GD> I don't think this is likely. If it does occur in some future GD> Logan's run future, it will not be due to socialism. GD> That is what socialism leads to. It sucks your mind clean. Society under socialism would lead to a society such as the Borge(Star Trek).
