I is it APA approved, at least provisionally? if so, and it's your first choice program, and you are accepted, i would say 'go for it'. i think the Psy.D. is getting more accepted, especially from APA+ programs. are you looking ultimately to an academic sort of career, or is that something you would want to do part-time? do you like research? because outside of academia, i don't think that the Psy.D. has any disadvantages, really. A few years ago, there was a proposed amendment to the Oregon constitution that would legalize discrimination against gays (it was called measure nine). It was narrowly defeated, so the next year, the same people (the Oregon Citizens Alliance) put a watered-down version of the same thing on many local and county ballots. Most of them passed. Before the election, the state legislature passed a law that was supposed to nullify all of them, but so far I don't think the conflict has been settled.
