I caught the tailend of this, which looks like a really interesting thread. One of the things I wonder - a delineation is often made between CM and Shamanism along the lines of CM=structure, Shamanism=spontaneity. Not quite that limited, but you get the drift. However, not being a shaman, and not having studied the area (which therefore qualifies me to speak about it, right? ), it still strikes me that there are very specific structures and rituals involved with classical shamanism; it's the modern wannabe shaman that seems to be utterly without structure. Similarly with CM - although some rituals are very precise and structured, often within that framework, there is a total release which seems to me to be very akin to what I perceive as shamanism. All of this is just perception on my part, but thought I'd throw it in for what it's worth. Does this strike any chords with you? There is a Co-Masonic body rumored in a small town near here, but Co-Masonry is specifically listed as "clandestine" and dual membership is not permitted by Masonic Obligation. For any lurkers, Masons swear to speak of the secrets of Masonry only to other Masons "made in a just and regularly constituted Lodge." A regularly constituted lodge is one chartered by the same governing body, (in our case tracable to the Grand Lodge of England or Scotland) or one that has been recognized by the Grand Lodge of Colorado, such as Prince Hall Masonry. If no such relationship exists, dual membership is forbidden. As Co-Masonry admits women, which are not recognized by the Blue Lodge (AF & AM), Masonic relations cannot exist. But it is important to note that Masonry considers discussion of politics, along with religion, to be devisive, and therefore banned from discussion within the Lodge. The Lodge's "secret meetings" are not where revolution has been sown, rather the spirit of free and rational thought without impediment, which opressive governments cannot survive, and hence seek to destroy. Most storms that come that close to North America have someone's name writen all over it. It was going to hit. Every past experience told us that. There wasn't any doubt that it would hit North America, and that it would be a bad storm. What I tried to do was to move it south so that it would skirt the keys and go into the gulf. There it might have, because of it's compactness, might have stalled out and either dissipated, or weakened. It did weaken a bit, and then grew again, mainly, I believe, because it moved so fast. The longer you can keep them from hitting land the weaker they will get. Sometimes. (Grin.) This wasn't the case with Fredie, and it might not have been the case with Andrew. When you are dealing with a storm of this magnitude, then you are dealing with a wild steer. It can go a hundred different ways, and all you can do is what you can to direct it to the least vulnerable area of damage. One thing that very few realize is that the coast of Florida is one of the most populated areas in the country. Not the most, but one of them. There are whole stretches of coastline in the gulf that don't have anyone living on it. Had Andrew been directed to one of these areas, then we would not have had the severe damage both to lives and property that we did. But he was such a compact storm, and h**l bent on coming in that all we could do was move him a bit south. Thank the gods we missed Miami. It could have been alot worse than it was. Right. You -do- realize many of the people who started the American Revolution were Masons? (That would be a rather interesting example of blind obedience to authority.) Not to mention such um, obedient and dogmatic figures as Mark Twain and Emperor Norton. 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718 From: J.S.
