He didn't say "Troth," Gerda. He said Toth. I usually see it refered to as the Book of Thoth though. He is talking about a book by Aleister Crowley. They don't have the rights to enter the Book of Troth into a computer. This helps to cover the cost of mailings, temple maintenance, etc.. Nobody is getting rich running the Temple of Set. I would make a distinction between asking for money to cover costs of printing, supplies, time, etc. and asking for money ala Ramtha seminars. As a person with limited income, I would have to pass the old hat around to buy supplies, etc. for group rituals. I wouldn't think, though, of asking somebody for hundreds of dollars to teach them how to do the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram, etc.. Xeper and Remanifest Rakshasa aka Setian Kevin T. One good way to look at an order is to see the seriousness with which its members attack the Great Work--to become More than Human or to Awaken from your Sleep. RAMTHA makes a lot of money because J.Z. Knight offers McEnlightenment. You don't have to spend years mastering yoga, you don't have to perform intense and often painful self-analysis, you don't have to study the work of mystics past and present--all you need to do is attend a few seminars, purchase a few crystal suppositories, and pay your money, then presto! you're a better person. If an order is truly serious it will demand a great deal of its members--a lot of work in every aspect. To date I have only encountered two magical orders which struck me as requiring that level of seriousness, the Temple of Set and the O.T.O.. (If your order wasn;t mentioned, people reading this, all it probably means is I don't know anything about it. I'm not in any position to cut down anyone else's religious beliefs, nor do I have any interest in freeing the masses of their stupidity and messing up J.Z. Knight's scam). I am a Setian and would consider affiliating with the O.T.O. if I were in a city with an O.T.O. Chapter. From my experience neither of these groups will let you get away with "phoo-phoo" for very long; if you don't start showing some magical _results_ in the Temple of Set, you will be shown the door in a polite but firm fashion. Mystic Moon 8818 Troy St. Spring Valley, CA, 91977 USA As for Heinlein and Twain...whoof, it is rather like being asked to cite specific works on a point in Shakespeare. I might recommend (from Twain) Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court; The Mysterious Stranger; Letters From The Earth; and his essays on Christian Science if you can find them (try collected essays, etc.). For Heinlein; Job: A Comedy Of Justice; Time Enough For Love; Stranger In A Strange Land. While I have myself inveighed loudly at times about the apparent movement in some quarters towards a "council of Wic-caea," I remain equally steadfsat in the belief that if such a lamentable event were to occur, the present rate of communication, the transit of memes through a culture (let alone a subculture like ours), etc. is so accelerated, that a "Reformation" would take place very quickly, rather than taking centuries. And then again, I'm not Wiccan, and arguably only marginally Pagan (Thelemite), so "I'm all right, Jack" (g).
