Sorry you didn't have time to call me. SB> So, how are things? How's the Camp? I have a new job, and it's full time. As for the camp, I may soon put an ad in the local independent newspaper (the major ones are still on strike, but I wouldn't use them anyway) to recruit new members. My original core group is almost gone; being college students, they all graduated and moved back home. The camp newsletter gets mailed today, and it looks _real_ nice. Eight pages! Great articles, too! SB> Today I witnessed the marriage of Vere and SB> Michelle. It was beautiful and heartwarming to SB> see two Thelemites enter into such intimate SB> communion. Wish you could have been here. So do I (*sigh*). I remember Vere, but I don't recall Michelle. But give them my best anyway. 93/93... 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718 From: Steph Area: MagickNet To: Lady Timber Wolf 19 Sep 92 11:21:02 Subject: discussion Sent UpdReq Hello Lady, Monday September 14 1992, Lady Timber Wolf writes to Barbara Kennedy: BK>> First, Wicca is only part of paganism, a 'sect' if you will. BK>> It is therefore possible to be a pagan without being a BK>> witch, yes? LTW> True Wicca has only been around for 50 years or so, That seems to be a bit of an arragant statement considering that the original Wicca was the belief system of the Anglo-Saxons of about 1,000 years ago who invented the word to describe their male 'preists' (the female being referred to as 'Wicce'). As the modern variant differs greatly from the original system I find it rather egotistical to claim a greater right to use the term to describe the belief system as 'Wicca' than the original belief system for which the word was invented to describe. I find this attitude to be similar to the modern fundamentalist christian practice of redifining the word 'christian' so as to not include other christians who believe different from their beliefs. Area: MagickNet To: Airmid 23 Sep 92 21:14:00 Subject: Alchemy UpdReq I don't think that the problem lies in finding the right words to described altered states of consciousness. Mystics have done rather well in that regard. You can't describe an experience unless you've had the experience. A lot of would-be cabalists, for example, babble endlessly about sephiroth and trade cliches about Malkuth being the "physical world" plane--as if this was trivial. I see few cabalists who understand that Malkuth is EDEN in the most literal sense: that it's eidetically BEAUTIFUL, that it's the sphere in which one becomes AWARE that everything is Consciousness--that matter is conscious and ALIVE. One doesn't need a lot of fancy words. One needs the EXPERIENCE--not a lot of intellectual abstractions. But there's little talk of this sort of thing in the literature. A lot of people are inadvertently misled, because most of the literature is so heavily weighted on the side of the irrelevant. The tragedy is that there's so much horse pucky to wade through--there are very few teachers, and I wouldn't look for them amongst those who get fat and famous by publishing and posing as experts. 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718 From: Daniel Duran Area: MagickNet To: Domi O'brien 24 Sep 92 09:53:00 Subject: Thanks UpdReq I received your package on the 23rd. Hehehe... reminds me of a story told me by some Navajo friends: Seems this young female college grad anthropologist was visiting the res for the first time, and in her eagerness to show her knowledge when introduced to her first case study family, tried to say a simple hello in Navajo. Imagine her distress when they all fell on the floor laughing -- by making one change of inflection, imperceptible to her, she had said instead, "I'm very pregnant." To the Navajo, who love a good earthy joke, and are quite aware of the trouble their language gives non-natives, it was a riot. I ran into the same type of humor myself, though you could say the other side of the coin: One day someone said, "Where did Chris go?" only it came out "Where's Chris go?" Ever after that, I was "Crisco". ... Brothels with bricks of Religion. 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718
