Use of tone in Chinese dialects is not that hard to grasp, although any language is easier to learn when young. The grammar could hardly be simpler, though: no masculine or feminine endings, no verb conjugations, no noun declensions other than plural, and so on... Now, Navajo, on the other hand... ... A lot of truths for which there is no vocabulary, get talked about in allegory, and I think a lot of medieval alchemy was based around allegory - otherwise, the Philosophers Stone, which they all sought, was seen as the most precious substance possible and at the same time as offensive as dung. That sounds like the Human Condition, to me! Fantastic book on the subject, by Johannes Fabricius, called ALCHEMY - the Medieval Alchemists & their Royal Art. Cherry Gilchrist also wrote a smaller, simpler and cheaper book called Alchemy. I agree. The Japanese expect that of you as well. The better your Japanese is, the more they expect you to BE Japanese. I did fine till it came time for the submissive, docile woman part. There I didn't do so well. And I'm afraid I set some Japanese men some problems to solve as well. But I was always being told I was "onna rashiku nai" (not feminine enough). I doubt that I'll do any better if I should ever get to Ireland. But the reason I'm taking Irish is to read it--though I'd like to speak it as well. And because my anscestry is over 3/4 Irish. The more I study of the language, the better I understand my family, and therefore, myself. Which is what I think it's all about. Erin 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718
