Yeah well you know, you say tomato, I say...... Terminology can be fun, it can also be damaging to a student. It all depends on what their definition of a word is. I had a student that kept coming to me and saying I can't get this grounding thing right. I just can't do it. Now as far as I could tell he seemd well grounded and centered, but since it is a personal thing I told him to keep working on it and kept trying to help him out. It never occured to me at the beginning to ask him what he thought grounding meant. I had explained early on in class what the definition was and what we were tryng to achieve. Well I asked him and he finally admitted that he had achieved the basic feelings that I had described but that he defined "grounded" as something much more complex. I could have slapped myself, for not catching on sooner. So because of a simple word this student felt that he was behind in his studies. I always ask know if anyone has a diffrent definition of grounding than the one I give at classes. If they do I ask if they have a word for what I just described, if they do we use that for them instead. (Opinion time) I think the most important thing for me in grounding is to know that if I draw to much energy I have a place to put it all without hurting anyone. However the way I look at it without grounding I wouldn't be getting as much energy as I needed in the frist place. I ground before I do magic to make sure that I have a ready flow of energy at my fingertips not just to discharge, when I am finished then I do indeed discharge it back into the ground. I also use grounding to draw upon the earth's energy to help me stay calm in stressful situations. I have never perceived it as just something to used to dump unused or unwanted energy into the earth. I perceive it as using the energy the earth has to offer and then giving it back when you're done. Kind of a borrowing thing. Hmmmmm I guess in a way you could say I recycle!!! :) Give it back!!!!
