Fi> For the record, the John Dee info I gave you was from Robert Turner's Fi> _Elizabethan Magic_ and not from Wm. Alex Ayton's translation Fi> of Dr. Thomas Smith's _The Life of John Dee_. The chart that is. Fi> The Ayton book simply gives date and time of birth, but no chart. Oh well. [sigh] Fi> Well I've found something that will probably be easier to come Fi> by than that. In Charlotte Fell Smith's 1909 bio of Dee, which Fi> I checked out of the library today (BWG), in the bibliography in Fi> the appendix, she says that Ashmole has printed 'the horoscope Fi> or nativity of Kelley, drawn or erected by Dee' in his _Theatrum_, Fi> page 479. Seems to me I've seen a picture of this somewhere, but damned if I can remember right now. Dropped by Bapho, and found the following, which never made it to the Arena: Fi> Could someone explain what the correlaton is between the unicursal Fi> hexagram and crossing the abyss? Never heard that one before. I thought the unihex was a glyph of the GW. Fi> Personally, I'm itching to do some work in that area. I suspect Fi> it's tied up with my 8th house energy. Fi> He suggests that to claim himself one grade would be equivalent to Fi> saying he exists at the level of a choir of angels, and to claim Fi> another grade would be saying that he creates like the archangels. Interesting idea. Sounds like self-limitation, though. Fi> But where does this fit into the idea that everyone will have a Fi> natural grade that they can attain to in a given life? This sounds like self-fulfilling prophesy to me. If I get to grade X and step in front of a bus (or a mad illegal in a taxi), then X must've been the grade I was "destined" to reach in this lifetime; if, however, I sidestep the vehicle and make it to grade Y some time later, then Y must've been my destiny. Poo-fab. CP> ??? Do we count those as Teths or Tavs? Fi> LOL. I'm glad somebody asked. Speaking of the Opening by Fi> Watchtowers ritual (we have briefly in the past) I came across Fi> an extra copy of Regardie's _Ceremonial Magic_. It's yours Fi> if you want it. Fi> Is there anything to indicate that in 1584, Dee and Kelley would Fi> have attributed Air to the East, Fire to the South, Water to the Fi> West, and Earth to the North? Oh, lor', here we go again! The Golden Talisman (...the culler of garlick... etc) gives directions but not elements. The usual allocation of elements to directions is, as you know, Air=East Water=West Fire=South Earth=North. Though I can't find the exact place in Causabon, James even offers invocations that reinforce this ("O you six Seniors of the East ... through the divine Name by which you are particularly bound , the angelic Name BATAIVA or BATAIVH, I, John Dee ... TC> TC> Whilst looking through my Enochian Tarot, I noted with some curiousity TC> cards denoting elemental Demons, comprised of four letters. TC> I thought (according to Chanokh) that the elemental Demon names were TC> three letters...? The "cacodemons" have names of three letters. Sounds like Gerry is mistaking the "Servient" angels for demons. He FUBARed it, as usual. TC> Also, when reading Enochian Sex Magick, Hyatt/Duquette talk about the TC> demon names, and say the exact method of determining them is unclear, TC> that Crowley never gave the detailed instructions he promised in TC> Chanokh. TC> Well, obviously, he didn't, but has anyone ever gone back through TC> Dee's notes to settle this? In Dee's records, the names of the cacodemons are formed from the Great Table (i.e., the four elemental tablets with the Black Cross connecting them). You take the first two letters of a "servient" angel's name, then you prepend the Black Cross letter that lies on the same row of the Great Table. As an example, the cacodemons of the Airy Lesser Angle of the Air Tablet: Lesser Angle Letter of Black Resulting cacodemonic Names Cross on same line name r Z l a e ---- c z n s x xcz T o T t a ato S i a s r rsi f m n d p pfm Note that there is only one demon per line in this method, and none for the Kerubic Angel's line. Also, that only the letters of EXARP and HCOMA are used from the Black Cross; the names NANTA and BITOM are on the horizontal, and so are ignored. My own researches indicate that any two continguous letters from a Servient Angel's name can be used to form a cacodemonic name, with the usual wraparound for the last letter in a row. Also, instead of using the Black Cross letter from the same line of the Great Table, you can use the equivalent letter from the Black Cross name attributed to the same element as the tablet. An example, using the Earthy L.A. of the Earth Tablet: L.A. Names Black Cross Resulting cacodemonic Name of Element names O c n c N none O p n a a Aop, Apn, Ana, Aao d O o p n Ndo, Noo, Nop, Npd r x a o t Trx, Txa, Tao, Tor a x i r a Aax, Axi, Air, Ara Further note: In Dee's records, you invoked the cacodemons by vibrating the God-names of the Lesser Angle _backwards_. Sort of like the myth that you invoke the Devil by reciting the Lord's Prayer backwards. I've found that if you use the God-names in their correct form, the cacodemons act pretty much like the "pure" elementals of other magickal systems. ... I've been meaning to get around to writing/posting a review of the Pat Zalewsi lecture I went to last week on Enochian Magic. It was pretty decent! JN> The "cacodemons" have names of three letters. Sounds like Gerry is JN> mistaking the "Servient" angels for demons. He FUBARed it, as usual. He did mention that Schueler had done the proofing on his first edition of _Golden Dawn Enochian Magic_ followed by the statement that the new edition has corrections, as well as some new material at the end of the book. He also mentioned that someone had given him some Black Moon papers on Enochian skrying to read. Upon further questioning, Laura Jennings-Yorke said that she had given him a bound booklet that yes indeed, did include some of BR's work. Anywho, Ceg's question caused me to pull out me deck and look for these 'demons'. There are 4 cards: 44. OTIM Demons of Fire 58. RAXP Demons of Air 72. MOKA Demons of Water 86.
