John Dee would pray, whilst Kelly sat and looked into a scrying glass. He received images and communication from angelic entities, which Dee transcribed as he spoke. The language which the angels described has come to be called Enochian. Some of Dee's diaries (which recorded the scrying sessions) were lost in a fire, but the rest form the basis for the magical system which bears the name Enochian. That's the basic origin: the culture is renaissance European, predominantly British. John Dee was highly regarded by Queen Elizabeth I, and claimed to be descended from the Welsh patriot, Owain Glyndwr. He was also a member of the British Secret Service, with the code name 007 :) TF> ...Reason TF> for asking, WeLL im a solitar practitioner, and dont realy have TF> that much contact, with the organized groups.... There aren't really many (any?) organised groups who practise Enochia. Some of the GD temples might practise the GD form of Enochia, but that's quite different to the original. Robert Turner's book, "Elizabethan Magic" (pub by Element) gives a good summary of Enochia, and Peter French's biography of Dee (pub by Arkana) is also very interesting.
