It sounds a lot like the "guy who went crazy when his D&D character died" stories...I don't want to sound sanctimonious or anything, but mightn't they have already been on the edge? To be sure, there are nasty things out there, but (without trying to sound like uber-mage or something - I'm not, and don't want to pretend to be) I still haven't encountered anything meaner than me.
