Directions to Harriman state park:

By Automobile, thumb or bicycle
From NYC

NYS Thruway North #87 (NW, really) to Palisades Interstate Parkway, (on West side of Hudson river), over the Tappan Zee (Alt route: George Washington Bridge to PIP) bridge.  PIP north to Seven Lakes Drive (Bear Mountain/Harriman parks). 7 lakes drive will take you to the east side of a traffic circle.  Follow circle (building in middle and beach off to the left), take the second right as you travel widdershins (counterclockwise) around the traffic circle, and this will put the lake directly on your left side.  Follow this road for about 1/2 mile, and watch for gate on left side of road with sign announcing that you are there.  Due to idiots who do not belong here coming in in their Cameros with disco blasting and beer bottles flying out the windows, you may need to park on the shoulder and walk up the road to the campsite, where someone will greet you, apologize for making you hike around, and come open the gate to guide you to parking.

From Westchester/Putnam/Dutchess and points east, get to Bear Mtn. Bridge (Hudson river a few miles North of Peekskill) and take Palisades Parkway South at traffic circle.  Once you have exited at seven lakes drive, directions are the same as above.
