SP> The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn attributed the cycle of the SP> resurection of Osiris to the word.....which is a little hard to give SP> the exact chart, but here's the main idea: SP> I Yod Creation SP> N Nun The God Slain and Risen SP> R Resh Destruction SP> I Yod The Trinity SP> NOTE: (the definitions of Nun and Resh should be switched. Huh...hadn't heard that one before. Trust the G.D. to make things more complicated than they are. Although I suppose it has it's points, if you take "creation" as meaning the created world. In the schema above, they're obviously interpreting it within a Christian context, not an Egyptian context. In that context, INRI is really nothing more than a symbolization of the four stages of Christ's life, compressed into an elemental scheme. The basic plot is common to most solar prophet myths, and to almost every "lost prince" fantasy ever written. But the "N" and "R" stages have to be switched to get it right, making the formula IRNI. Thus: First "I" (= Virgo, Earth) The "hidden" stage of childhood through young adulthood, during which he didn't do anything of note. Ends with his meeting with John the Baptist, when the voice from heaven says "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased", thus initiating the Solar stage. R (= Sol, Fire) He immediately goes out and begins to do all sorts of Solar things: performing miracles, healing, gathering his zodiacal disciples, being declared King of the Jews, etc. The key nature of Solar Fire is centralization or attraction, thus the endless "come thou and follow me" parables. N (= Scorpio, Water) The whole Crucifixion drama, beginning with the Passover supper and ending with his entombment. Last "I" (= Mercury, Air, ruler of Virgo) His resurrection and reappearance as a completely spiritual being. It should be pointed out that this same scenario was applied to practically every Middle Eastern king for a couple of millenia before the establishment of the Christian mythos. It was nothing new even in its day. The same scenario can be seen unchanged in the pre-Christian Merlin myths in Celtic countries, in Mallory's version of the King Arthur myth, and in the life of Buddha. It is a universal description of the overall path of initiation. The un-switched version of INRI is an expanded form of the alchemical "solve et coagula". It describes both the alchemical process and the typical course of any single initiation a person experiences: Alchemical: First "I" -- the basic material being operated upon N -- the dissolving of the material, the application of heat to extract its essences, and the burning of the "dead head". R -- the concentration of the essences by continued application of heat; the "glowing" stage where the stuff begins to take on a color (usually a solar golden color) Last "I" -- the perfected essence, fully extracted from the media. Initiatory: Every initiation takes place as a result of the application of force to the person's psyche from outside. This force acts exactly like the alchemical heat. First "I" -- the force enters the person, but has no obvious effect. It simply collects in the person's being until a sufficient amount is present. The person might have some intimations of something happening "behind the scenes", but doesn't see any overt effect. N -- The first noticeable effect of any force is to cause a breakup of some existing patterns of perception and behavior. The centralized, perceived "self" gets stretched out of shape, the connections between its components are loosened, and those components most like the incoming force have their activity exaggerated and distorted. R -- As the force continues to collect in the person, it finally comes fully into the person's consciousness. The "self" begins to re-configure in such a way as to include the new forces, typically resulting in the achievement of a stable personality operating on a higher level than before. The person has many sudden realizations of things pertaining to the initiating force, symbolic visions of its operation, etc. Last "I" -- Once the force is completely absorbed and the personality fully stabilized, the person is able to look at the events more "objectively"; they formulate further connections and understandings based on their experiences, and translate these into formulaic and intellectual terms. In all these interpretations, the identical first and last I's indicate that the end of the process was implicit or present at the beginning. It might also be an indication of the principle that the mundane and divine manifestations of a thing are really equally divine in nature. ...
