From: Paul Hume Area: Thelema To: To Meta Therion 2 Dec 94 08:17:58 Subject: OTO UpdReq TMT - 93 The XIo is a mystery in itself, no? I have no idea what the factors were - I could make cynical guesses, like everyone and his cousin Fred who has done gay magical sex declaring they were XIo, etc. The XIo is not "shut down," but the OTO isn't recognizing or initiating into it, or making it part of the functioning day-to-day Order. Since the XIo "dwells apart," etc. and (in my own view) functions on a level that transcends "his-and-hers" magical sexuality (Tao, as opposed to the harmony of Yin-Yang) it seems akin to the Master of the Temple grade and the adventure of the Abyss. I believe Motta made this same point - he at least stated that as he was an 8=3, he could not function in any OTO degree other than XIo. Leaving aside MANY issues with this claim (was Motta an 8=3? If so, was this statement regarding the XIo valid, or part of his political program to establish himself as OHO of OTO? Or was this a spiritual insight, of which Motta was entirely capable when not on a rant? etc.) there is a certain symmetry to the model which I find persuasive, if not compelling. But I couldn't tell you any details leading up to the Caliph's declaration of a few years back - I'm just a IVo myself, and find life as an initiator and Camp Master quite busy enough. People seem to get irate when I tell them that their magick isn't as affective as mine, and deep down inside it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. I don't believe in any concept of Heaven nor do I believe that there is any warfare with aeons. If I did care what aeon it was and I wished to describe my feelings for the aeons, It would go a little bit like this. The aeons are periods in time. How do they affect us? They seem to add a bit different energy to the human consciousness. Is any aeon better than any other? Well, truthfully, no. There seems to be no proof that Osirian Magickians, Isisian magickians and Horus Magickians techniques are any better. (I have met a few powerful wiccans that I wouldn't mess with, and they seem to follow Isisian magick.) The only difference seems to be the path to enlightenment that one chooses. The Horus aeon just sits around and says, ""OK, so you don't want to be sequestered to attain enlightenment. How about if you go out and have a good time and do it? OK, now that idea works. Have fun guys" Anyway, A war? No. Maybe a ibit of sexual mingling, but not a war. 201434369420143436942014343694201434369420143436942014343694718 From: Andy Bender Area: Thelema To: Christeos Pir 1 Dec 94 08:19:00 Subject: More Ac Bull. Most of the libraries I've been to have more than a few texts by Crowley himself, either in reference or available for check out (in fact, I just read Moonchilde by checking it out from the library), and even if the libraries do not have it in stock, there are almost always ways to borrow books from other libraries via inter- library loan. I think, then, the problem is not that John and Jane have only one source of information, but rather that John and Jane only choose to find one type of information, or are too lazy to imagine that there might be other viewpoints worth reading. UpdReq HTML is an interesting choice, though scuttlebutt is that the authoring is pretty difficult. What's your take on it? It take it taht it does support styled text. The typography issues could be difficult, though. How would Greek, Coptic, Hebrew, Arabic, be represented? My understanding is that HTML allows the user to choose the display font, which would seem to indicate that the author can't select a particular font. This must have been addressed, since the Internet is international. I'm just wondering what the solution is. Tim PS. Anything has to be better than FrameMaker!
