Tree, but the attributions of the paths are different. Achad's changes came from the cabalistic lore that the Sephiroth were created by the downward-moving "Lightning Flash", while the Paths were created by the upward movement of the "Serpent of Wisdom". He reasoned that since the Serpent moves UP the Tree, the sequence of the paths should go from the bottom to the top, instead of from top to bottom as in the G.D. Tree. His final version of the Tree doesn't exactly reverse the order of the paths from the G.D. Tree, but it comes close. Here's a tabulation of the path attributes for his Tree. Path Trump Connects with ___------------------------------------------------ Aleph The Fool Malkuth Yesod Beth The Magician Malkuth Hod Gimel The Priestess Yesod Hod Dalet The Empress Malkuth Netzach Heh The Emperor Tiphereth Geburah Vav The Hierophant Hod Netzach Zain The Lovers Hod Tiphereth Cheth The Chariot Yesod Netzach Teth Strength Netzach Tiphereth Yod The Hermit Hod Geburah Kaph The Wheel Kether Chokmah Lamed Justice Netzach Chesed Mem The Hanged Man Yesod Tiphereth Nun Death Geburah Chesed Samek Temperance Chesed Chokmah Ayin The Devil Tiphereth Binah Peh The Tower Geburah Binah Tzaddi The Star Binah Chokmah Qoph The Moon Tiphereth Chesed Resh The Sun Tiphereth Chokmah Shin Judgement Kether Tiphereth Tau The Universe Kether Binah If you draw these up on a standard diagram of the Tree, you will see that the three Mother Letters comprise the Middle Pillar, and all the remaining paths (with the exception of Kaph) are connected to the Sephira by astrological attribute; e.g. all paths ruled by Mercury (Beth, Zain, and Yod) are connected to Hod, and so on. As for references, there are few. Achad's original work is documented in his three books "Q.B.L. or The Bride's Reception", "The Egyptian Revival", and "The Anatomy of the Body of God". I think these are currently out of print; the editions I have were published by Weiser in 1973-74. Eventually these will be available in electronic form on Mumbo Jumbo Kathedral, whenever I get the time to finish typing them. "Q.B.L." is interesting for its insights into how Achad developed his ideas. It started off as a fairly standard piece on the cabala, but he had his flash of insight in the middle of writing it, and included his rough notes as an appendix. "Revival" is the core work on his Tree. It's heavily Thelemic, and also interesting for the ideas that later appear (with source unacknowledged) in Kenneth Grant's work. "Anatomy" is a brilliant piece of work on the geometric properties of the Tree, in which his revisions play a very minor role. Other than Achad's books, the only available work on his Tree that I know of is my own. I wish it weren't so, but it is. There was a small magazine dedicated to it in the early 70's, but I think any copies of it have long since disappeared. My viewpoint on the Tree is somewhat different from Achad's, since I don't have the heavy obligations to Thelema that he had, but it isn't incompatible with his view. If everyone will please forgive yet another bit of self-advertisement, here's a list of my papers on the subject, which are available through Black Moon. All but the first two are now available in electronic form on Mumbo Jumbo Kathedral. Achad's Cabala: The Lower Paths Achad's Cabala: The Upper Paths These two papers serve as an introduction to Achad's Tree, with primary attention given to Tarot symbolism. Many of the interpretations may seem radical to someone committed to using the G.D. Tree, but all the elements used are standard in one or more esoteric systems. Only the connections between those elements are new. Both papers are slightly marred by an occasional descent into sophomoric humor. The Lower Paths deals with the area of the Tree below Tiphereth, concentrating on the connections between the Tree and the normal, uninitiated human psyche. Each path is dealt with separately, showing its function, and the way in which that function derives from the sephiroth it connects. The way in which the Tarot images establish each path's correct position on the Tree is also dealt with. The Upper Paths interprets the paths of the "Heavenly Hexagon" in the Tree as a representation of the daily Solar cycle. I got this idea from a gematraic connection between the verses of the Stele of Revealing and some of the internal paths of the Hexagon. The ideas presented are good, but at the time it was written I wasn't sufficiently initiated to develop them from my direct experience; I was running on sheer inspiration, and this shows in the sketchiness of some portions. There are two appendices. One outlines the process of magickal creation as it relates to the Tree. The other presents various gematraic correspondences not related to the Solar cycle dealt with in the body of the paper. Medieval Social Structure and Achad's Tree of Life This piece was intended to show that there is an exact correspondence between the hierarchic structure of feudal society and the symbolic structure of Achad's Tree. The paper used only well- established astrological and Tarot symbolism so that no one could accuse me of taking liberties in interpretation. Random Notes on Liber AL Contains some gematria connecting Achad's Tree with verses from Liber AL. Enochian Temples The Lower Temple These two papers contain some "channeled" descriptions of the Path of Initiation, interpreted in terms of Achad's Tree. There are also bits of Achadian stuff interspersed through my other papers, but not enough to make them worth getting for that alone. * SLMR 2.1a * Moderation causes "Excess deficiency" 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718 From: Azoth Area: Thelema To: Nachash 6 Aug 92 18:39:42 Subject: Re: Frater Achad UpdReq 93, Nachash!
