I have to confess that I've not put much time into such exact scrutiny of 65; I've read it several times, but with the intent of immersing myself in the poetry, rather than applying close study to specific quotes. However, AC has the following to say about the line in question: A garden usually symbolizes a place of cultivated beauty;Oriental poets use it to express a collection of poems or wisesayings. The immortal kisses are the tokens of the operation of``love under will'' which is perpetual. The Angel calls upon theAdept to display his brilliance as if the Knowledge andConversation were a transcendental sacrament beyond that impliedin all acts. The opium poppy is a symbol of peace, exaltation, and delight, the giver of sleep, by which is meant the silencing of allpossible distractions. The mouth of the Adept, the organ bywhich he is nourished, expresses his thoughts, and symbolizeshis passions; by the kiss of this mouth is meant its surrenderto the Angel, the act of marriage, and this is the key to theinfinite sleep and lucid. Sleep has been explained above. It isinfinite, being freed from the limitations of condition, andlucid as being characterized by pure vision. Shi-loh-am;the word means peace. As for the commentaries and .LZH, the software you need to unpack them is LHArc. There ought to be a PC version of the software out there somewhere; perhaps someone local could jump in and suggest where, or upload one. I'm using an Atari ST, so I can't help you in that department. 93 93/93, Steve 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718 From: Steven Craig Area: Thelema To: Gerald Del Campo 23 Jun 92 12:44:20 Subject: Re: Introduction etc. UpdReq >through symbols, than any other method: The Qabalah teaches you what >symbols to use to communicate certain principles to the subconscious >mind...the rest is easy as pie. :) The reverse is also holds true; the Qabalah allows one to teach the subconcious mind various symbols to facilitate two-way communication. Many of the symbolic associations do not really start to work until the they are etched into the brain through rote memorization. Of course, this isn't to say that the choice of symbols is _entirely_ arbitrary and incidental. My argument for this is that I have, on occassion, had an unknown word or number thrown at me which later analysis showed to be quite meaningful and harmonious with the working in question. This is why I enjoy the Qabalistic methods of analysis (Gematria, etc.) so much; if you keep rearranging things enough, you're _bound_ to come up with something profound! :-) 93 93/93, Steve 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718 From: Steven Craig Area: Thelema To: Gerald Del Campo 23 Jun 92 12:52:04 Subject: Re: Introduction etc. UpdReq > There are a couple of Orders which have managed the marriage > between GD and Thelema...I must say I am intrigued by the whole > thing. My aim has not been to integrate the two traditions into a single set of rituals, any more than I'd try to adapt a set of electronics tools to do woodworking. I think the GD and Thelemic ritual bodies both serve different, unique purposes, and to try to combine them is only to invite a session of "find the lowest common denominator". Of course, all of this is considering only the practical benefits reaped from each system and does not address the issue of, say, the Thelemite who wishes to celebrate hir philosophy and who has a penchant for GD-style ten minutes speeches. In this case, the best solution would seem to be to borrow the GD look & feel, but write up the stuff from scratch, rather than trying to tweak existing GD ritual into a new environment. 93 93/93, Steve 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718 From: Steven Craig Area: Thelema To: Gerald Del Campo 23 Jun 92 13:02:42 Subject: Re: DMT UpdReq The tape I have is dubbed from a CD entitled "T.A.G.C. Or is it the Liber O type > instruction on vibrating the god names, utilising the sign of horus > to hurl the pentagrams out from the ajna chakra? I do the signs of Horus with the standard LBRP, too. I think that the NOX signs are a big part of why I find the Star Ruby so effective, along with the fact that I find the names at the quarters a lot more charged. When doing GD magick, I tend to regard the Hebrew names as symbolic formulae, and while this can provide great depth of association, it doesn't always pack the same punch; having "2x(3y^x)" floating in the west doesn't have quite the same effect as calling upon a lusty naked redheaded woman. :-) The god-images of the Star Ruby are simply more vivid for me. It occured to me recently that the NOX signs allow a real catharsis to be achieved by screaming one's brains out in a carefully orchestrated fashion... you've not done it right until white sticky stuff comes gushing out of the Sahasrara chakkra. :-) Another thing I really like about the Star Ruby is that it works just as well, if not better, if I'm angry, stressed, or upset. It takes real effort to gather myself beforehand if I want to do the LBRP in such moods, but I can do Star Ruby in a full-tilt pissed mood, and feel fantastic by the end of it. The other day, a Wiccan friend of mine was complaining that she was upset and stressed to a degree where she was unable to ground & center... It struck me as unusual that AC was the first (in my experience) to figure out that in such circumstances, an _active_ means of centering can be far more effective than a passive means. (Or, if you're relaxed enough to ground & center, you probably don't need to. :-) ) I ought to take it upon myself to apply this principle to a more universal symbol set, so even the "Aleister Crowley= yuckiness" types might be made privy to it. :-) 93 93/93, Steve 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718 From: Steven Craig Area: Thelema To: Michelle Hass 23 Jun 92 13:30:16 Subject: Re: POLITICAL CORRECTNES UpdReq You make several good points. (Bantam Books) The blurb I clipped from the Wash. Post some years back sounds interesting, but I haven't seen the book yet: " The first installment in a projected four-part sequence, this beautifully composed novel plays a series of fantasias on New Age themes: Gnosticism, the Tarot, astral projection, millenarianism, the notion of a "secret history" of the world, the legends surrounding such Renaissance alchemists as Giordano Bruno and Dr. Dee. All these are embedded in a moving story -- laced with as much confusion and mistaken identity as a Shakespearean comedy -- of a young history teacher who settles in a small country town, meets a number of enigmatic characters, and discovers the forgotten fiction of the mysteriously historical novelist Fellowes Kraft."
