I am reminded of the words of Uncle Al himself in regards to the Right Conduct required in Thelemic society, and how he found so few people were accepting of such conduct. "You should treat everybody as a King of the same order as yourself. Of course, nine people out of ten won't stand it, not for a minute; the mere fact of your treating them decently frightens them; their sense of inferiority is exacerbated and intensified; they insist on grov- elling. That places them. They force you to treat them as the mongrel curs they are; and so everyone is happy!" --Magick Without Tears, Pg. 293, (Letter 46) You give people the benefit of the doubt until they prove themselves otherwise. The weeding out process is ideally an organic process, a Tao-based process. Doing the right thing might be hard sometimes, but it is its own reward. A woman is only C> fulfilled through a relationship with a man? This Precisely. Likewise, the opposite case is just as true. Actually, you need to take into account that Had & Nu are not synonomous with "male human" and "female human"; they are far more universal symbols. Nuit is space, and Hadit is a point within space. Nuit is the field of possible experience, and Hadit is the observer's place within that field. Nuit contains infinite possibility, but that possibility can only be fulfilled when encountered by Hadit. Likewise, the existence of a point is rather (dare I say it?) pointless if there is nothing else around it. None of this has the slightest thing to do with the biological plumbing of the initiate. Quite simply, Hadit is the magickian, of whatever gender, and Nuit is the sphere of experience through which s/he travels. The symbols of Nu & Had are more basic even than the polarities of lingam & yoni, or yin & yang. Certainly, they include such ideas, but are not limited to them. I did a strong swing away from Christianity when I became first a militant goddess-worshipper, then a more moderate pagan, and finally an agnostic gnostic magickian. While I may think about Christianity (as well as Buddhism, Wicca, etc.), it is not necessary to measure all experiences against that particular yardstick. However, I can appreciate and empathize with the fact that it can take time to move away from an ingrained thought pattern. C> partners, and their abundant families. I'm just telling you that, in AC was rather enigmatic regarding the whole affair. At some times, he comes across as an ardent worshipper of women, while at others he is quite the sexist. However, while his commentaries on AL certainly can lend insight, I think it is more important to let the writings speak for themselves. Even if one doesn't buy into the divine authorship of the text, it is still possible to make a distinction between Aleister's magickal/poetic writing and Aleister-the-person. I think it is common consensus that he was both a genius and a bastardly twit. The bottom line is, how does the writing strike _you_? In any event, glad to see a new face around; hope to hear from you soon! 93 93/93, Steve 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718
