UpdReq I can't remember the name of this particular writing, but it's the one where AC describes an exercise for developing psychic faculties where you hold a pack of tarot cards face down & try to 'guess' what the card is. I've been working with a couple of variations on that exercise lately, based on the idea of concentrating on a card or image 1st, and then finding it in the deck. Variation #1- meditate on a specific card while mixing the cards- cut and see how close you came (both comparing the sought card with the one flipped, & seeing how close the sought card was in the deck). #2 - meditate on a more general topic- e.g. do the Golden Dawn elemental earth meditation. Lay out a spread of cards- a small number is best. Look at a). how close you were conceptually (i.e. if you got predominantly Disks, and/or the Hierophant, Devil, Emperor, Universe then you were right on the money) b). & then interpret the cards like you would a normal tarot layout for a 'commentary'. #3- meditate on an area where it may be less clear if you're 'right or wrong'. Oh- meditate on a particular god, assume that god form while mixing the cards- 's a good one too. If anyone has tried similar methods I'd love to hear from you. --- Opus-CBCS 1.73a * Origin: Zonzr - The Alien BBS Fairfax, Va (1:109/114.0) 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718 From: Anthra Andromda Area: Thelema To: All 20 Mar 92 11:01:00 Subject: Law UpdReq Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law. [Note: the 'l' in law above is intentionally lower case.] I have received several chastizements, both on the BBS echos and in hard copy letters about the fact that I don't make the "L" in the word 'Law' of the the thelemic greeting (and statement of Law) upper case. It has been pointed out that this is an error, to some a gross error. To others little more than an over sight. The capitalization of this letter has been said to be 'the most important tenet in Thelema'. I would agree that the Law of Thelema is a most important concept and aspect in today's world, and will become increasingly more so. I would like, however, to point out a few, perhaps overlooked, aspects about this fauxpas. I should like to prefce my remarks by saying; Let us not be side tracked by mere typographical issues, let us get on with Thelema and the Great Work, and leave the 'case' justification to the typesetters. In the Book of Law it is written; I;22. Now, therefore, I am known to ye by my name Nuit, and to him by a secret name which I will give him when at last he knoweth me. Since I am Infinite Space, and the Infinite Stars thereof, do ye also thus. Bind nothing! Let there be no difference made among you between any one thing & any other thing; for thereby there cometh hurt. I;23. But whoso availeth in this, let him be the chief of all! It is also said that all numbers are infinite and therefore equal. I am aware that it is also said that we are not to change 'so much as the style' of a letter, for in doing so we may loose something. However, in the process of making both hard copy and computer files of the Book we ARE changing the style of the letters. This, is NOT an error, and as long as a copy of the oirginal script is available there is nothing lost to us. In the letters to me the capitalization of the letter "L" is treated in a tone of _extreme_ importance. It could appear and become as a stumbling block to the Thelemic current. It is not the idea of a "law" that is important in Thelema, it is the content of the law itself. By raising the 'law' to such a pinicale we are running the danger of making it dogma. Dogma is the last thing we want or need. Let us remember; it is not the law that we must revere, but its concepts; Light, Life, Love, and Liberty. We should be paying more attention to the development of our Will and our Love. Let us also remember; that under Thelema, all things are equal, all paths valid so long as they lead to true liberty. Love is the law, love under will. --- msged 2.00 * Origin: Ordo Argentum Astrum [509]935-4763 6pm - 6am (93:9550/0.0) 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718
