From: L P Area: Public Key Encryption To: All 11 Mar 95 07:05:00 Subject: Internet Gateway & Fido UpdReq -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- According to docs from FidoNet and node 1:1/31, I may not send encrypted mail to or receive encrypted mail from the Internet by way of the 1:1/31 gateway without prior permission. I wrote a letter to "Postmaster" at 1:1/31 about getting permission, but never got a response. Is there somewhere or some addressee better to write in order to get an answer? Is there a gateway through which I can send and receive encrypted mail? Are clear signed messages considered to be "encrypted mail"? What's the deal with FidoNet anyway -- do the people at the gateway (and other sysops with respect to routed netmail) have nothing better to do than read people's private mail - -- and are they so hooked on it that they don't want to let any of it past? Is there another FidoNet technology network that gates to the Internet and permits encrypted correspondence? Thanks for any help. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: 2.6.2 iQCVAgUBL2HXnl3p8JHts+exAQEgOgP/Try+hp0W9Dv97Eey8AYq9hLxrKE2A3qA cOy5N4CUIDWFf31shjvQv/VOq2ASaGUvldX5Zq/bDMGSHJpq944dbX1x4xdl6Lo2 UKu676YTKQyEtrK2ALi26k0nSzawSulh44+n60U5Xt2xWwYvbhG2K+19IDsyPi/k p46gZIRttl8= =RpAb -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- ~~~ VbReader V1.4 Blessed are the meek, for they make great scapegoats. # Origin: Who's Askin'? Note that in cryptographic protocols, the presence of a "dealer" is considered a weakness. There should be no need to trust anyone in an ideal protocol. For a complete description of a mental poker protocol, see page 78 of "Applied Cryptography: Protocols, Algorithms, and Source Code in C" by Bruce Schneier, copyright John Wiley and Sons, 1994. It's a damn good book. The mental poker protocol described there suffers from the problem of "information leakage." Apparently in some circumstances this allows participants to "mark" cards, or find out a card's value before they should know. I didn't understand the explanation of this leakage. Schneier says, "Shafi Goldwasser and Silvio Micali developed a two-layer mental-poker protocol that fixes this problem, although its complexity makes it far more theoretical than practical. No one has developed a general n-player poker protocol that eliminates the problem of information leakage." So now that you won't be reinventing the wheel, perhaps this is something you can work on. {grin} John -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: 2.7 Comment: Call 818-345-8640 voice for info on Keep Out magazine. iQCVAwUBL2PFE2j9fvT+ukJdAQHhKgP/XQJWOpD5ugX2A+ItrQibAxDcpGoB9F9P FEVvbUQ/4ROQo8gNGx1HU1BhHh807eeU3GmCTvjopek9wreMlz2WLPmHhg8rLKUG hsMaTLVkvt9eOBD+dMyVbWAbJFh5XBPoSE9Rv1WfLsOh52HSgWQa7TxHyndEd8ma geisRrqr5wc= =su+X -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- **EZ-PGP v1.07 ...
