Why does PGP require the user to "enter some random JB> text" during key generation?? Why is it necessary to measure the time JB> interval between keystrokes??? Because by making use of that input, the computer *CAN* produce numbers indistiguishable from random, Jeffrey. If you intend to use that necessary user intervention as proof that computers can't produce random numbers, then be aware that by the same logic, hammers can't drive nails. JB> Then you've either read none of them, or fail to see the simple truth JB> that tempest is implemented as a cross between the secure and the JB> practical. Jeffrey, if nobody on the Earth can do it, or it is impractical enough that it won't be possible to do it for many years, then it *CAN'T FRIGGIN' BE DONE FOR OUR PURPOSES*. What somebody might be able to do in a few years if they completely replaced my house with an antenna doesn't concern me in the least, 'cause I can still see the same old walls there. If you're going to use the Physics definition of secure (absolutely undoable even in theory) instead of the Cryptographic definition (nobody can do it today) then you're probably posting in the wrong echo. Since that also appears to be your definition source for randomness (absolutely random, as opposed to indetectable from randomness) I think you'd be more comfortable in PHYSICS or SCIENCE. --- Sqed/32 0.98/r15029 # Origin: Void Where Prohibited/2 (1:19/34) 201434369420143436942014343694201434369420143436942014343694201
