UpdReq Hey, I'm not worried about the PMRC stickering rap music records, heavy metal records, et alia, ad nauseum...the reason why I'm not worried about that is because they're all really smart bitches from Hell and they know that stickering doesn't do much good and that it's old hat. Democrats have to keep up with the times in order to keep up their image, remember? And so the thing today isn't so much the music industry, as the MOVIE INDUSTRY. Specifically, horror. They're pally-pal with the Jack Valenti and the MPAA now. But hold on, wait for it. Do you see a pattern? They're changeable, but they're very consistent. First, rock music. They got everyone from the forties generation stirred up and forming even more pernicious, repressive and sneaky "values" groups of their own, and ducked out. Now they've got their fingers in horror movies. You thuink Blockbuster came up with that "family viewing" kick on their own? Still not too threatening, but the trend has been set. Now there'll be a whole bunch of cinematic killjoys and watchdog groups popping up, especially now that the Republican conservative era is drawing to a close. It will be about ten years before we purge conservativism from the governemnt, and by then probably another Republican regime will start up. But for now, Tipper and Company will work their mischief, and then move on to something else. I'm scared to think on what! First, rock music, then horror movies, and if I don't miss my guess they'll probably go after comics. They seem to me like over-protective parents operating on the level of government. And there are a lot of people saying Paganism, Wicca and satanism in the same breath. How much do you want to bet that good old Tipper and her bitches are gonna come after us while we're out here, pissing and moaning and saying, "It doesn't matter to me what they do to rap music because I don't like it anyway." We'll sure as hell care when they go on CNN, C-Span, MTV, Fox and other big networks and start snarling about those bloody Pagans (term generic and all the more horrific for that) and how they are corrupting the youth of America into running around naked, worshipping animals, speaking against the Xtian Church and generally turning this fine country of ours into a hotbed of wanton, heathen wastefulness. Now we know it's not true, but we're talking abotu politicians and their whitebread family-values dupes here. It stands to reason, doesn't it? I mean, going after people of the Craft and the Earth is VERY Traditionally American, yes? Watch out, my Brothers and Sisters. Stop yelling "Never agina the burning!" and watch out now, because those who would burn us in a few years are out there making as much noise as we are RIGHT NOW. Rather than keeping it from the American public, the efforts of the censors resulted in a barrage of free nationwide advertising by the news media. Many played the song in whole or in part, and lots of radio stations played it more in protest than they would have otherwise. I'm sure that lots of people ran out to buy it, too, because of the controversey. I'm not saying that censorship is good, but if we look at this case in particular, it did a lot more good so far as spreading awareness to every living room in America beyond just the listeners of that particular brand of rap. What's scary is the censorship that goes on QUIETLY, behind the scenes, and you never even know it's censored. Such euphemisms as "community standards" and "industry guidelines" have axed a great deal more than we hear about. Not to mention the real important stuff besides art, like information about what the government is REALLY doing. Ignorance is a big industry here. Just my $.02. 93 -- Vere 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718 From: Max Delysid Area: THE_OASIS To: All 26 Sep 92 11:19:58 Subject: my conspiritorial mind at work... Bill Clinton wins Bill Clinton makes good on a campaign promise and starts a nationwide government subsidised health care system. the adminstrators of this sytem, in order to make it more CONVENIENT, issue mag-strip cards with every citizens Health Plan ID info encoded on the back. Hospitals and other health care organizations restructure themselves to depend upon a patient having this card. in effect, every american man, woman, and child has a NEW federal number attached to them - without all the legislated privacy hassles the the TIN (SSN) has. what if, since they are not specifically disallowed to do so, other government agencies start using the Health Plan ID to identify you. It'd be mighty convenient for the FBI to track someone by their health care patterns. ... and you'd have to be awful brave to use someone elses card. look to the future: one world, one people, one card, one ID # 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718
