Sent UpdReq On July 9, you wrote in a message to Setians titled "Working with the currents...": . NS > I find the whole concept of Satan and Christ, Good and Evil, a bit too dogmatic. .Do you feel that these concepts are inherently "dogmatic", no matter how they're re-interpreted? What's your religious background, by the way? .Anyhow, on July 12, you wrote to Charles Nemo on this same subject: . NS > many semi-organized counter-culture groups seem to be stuck on the idea of denouncing xianity, as compared to getting the ball rolling towards a new strream of thinking. .What "new stream of thinking" do you think we should be "getting the ball rolling towards"? . NS > Take CoS for instance, the only purpose of this "Religion" seems to be Revolt and Hate currents aimed at stating "I'm not a X-tian, I'm a Satanist!" Where we all realize that by the law of Dualities, to admit the validity of one is to admit the validity of it's opposite. LeVey says he preaches indiviuality well in truth he is just another fundamentalist, on a Black Horse compared to a white one. Not to mention the fact that most people that get involved with CoS are nothing but Sheep with an attitude. .I agree with you about the CoS, and I love that phrase "Sheep with an attitude". Their "Revolt" is just a sexier version of plain old American right-wing scapegoating and general meanspiritedness. Apparently LaVey has decided that the metal-heads, skinheads, etc. are his market. .But do not judge all Satanists by the behavior of the LaVey crowd. The Setians I've corresponded with are much more intelligent and do not seem to be motivated by "Hate". I'm not a Setian, but I'm not a reverse-fundamentalist either. .To me, the whole idea of Satanism-as-pure-rebellion seems silly. If one is motivated purely by rebellion against Christianity, it makes more sense to drop Christianity altogether, rather than to keep relating to the Christian god-form of Satan. My idea of a religion- of-pure-rebellion is feminist Goddess religion (now, that's a *real* rebellion against *real* oppression), which I embraced for several years. When I finally acknowledged my attraction to Satanism (about a year and a half ago), it felt more like a compromise than like a rebellion. .To me, Satanism is a way of putting one's rejected Christian conditioning to magic(k)al use, rather than trying to eradicate it altogether. It is a recognition that, at the deepest levels of the mind where magick takes place, it is not possible to escape one's upbringing. 718499927771849992777184999277718499927771849992777184999277718
