I am like you, Grendel.  I got tired of the politicking, both within and 
without the Circle I belonged to.  I was trying too hard not to step on the 
toes of a member because my way of life offended him.  Because I had to 
suppress who I am to please him, I could no longer enjoy ritual.  Even though 
I'm only a 1st degree Wiccan (more-or-less Gardnerian eclectic), I broke off 
to explore my own spirituality in a context I could be free.  
THEN, there were the people who were offended because I was conversing with 
Thelemites and Setians.  One so-called "High Priest" crawled down my throat 
because I was reading Crowley!  Another told me that Setians were nothing but 
"bad news."  NONSENSE! 
I count myself fortunate that I have been able to find this and the other 
echoes, and my Setian and Thelemite friends and I get along famously, 
politics bedamned.

The point is the SysOp is responsible for what the user posts on his BBS. 
Darklord posted a message in another echo that got ME in trouble. Added to 
the message in here, and his previous fuck-ups, it was justified. I very 
rarely kick anyone off line. He is only the 4th person in 3 1/2 years of 
Purgatory's existence to get kicked off.
