I wish I could recall the author, but in any case she was describing her reactions to reading a recommendation on social policy written by Charles Murray, who has achieved notoriety as co-author of the contraversial "The Bell Curve." He gives a detached, detailed analysis as to why, as so many have suggested, part of the plan to reduce poverty should entail a social agenda to "restigmatize" illegitimacy (through such means as cutting off AFDC). The author, a white, upper-middle class college student at the time of her unwanted pregnancy in 1967, had to face an onslaught to her dignity that nearly drove her to self-abort, if not suicide. What galls me is that in the guise of "concern" and "compassion," people like Murray, Buckley, Gingrich, etc. seem to advocate a war on poverty by geting rid of the offending underclass by stealthy and not-so stealthy means.... At least Vlad Tepes was honest enough to round the poor of his kingdom up under the ruse of being invited to a feast, and having them all immolated so "that there would be no more poor in my land." s 201434369420143436942014343694201434369420143436942014343694718 From: Psyber Area: Mundane To: Albertus Magnus 20 Apr 95 20:57:16 Subject: Re: Information.
