It is from an Associated Press wire. ABORTION FOE CHARGES 'SMEAR' Rev. Trewhella respons to Planned Parenthood charges The Rev. Matthew Trewhells, an abortion opponent shown in video-taped excerpts released Wednesday by Planned Parenthood, accused the organization of a "smear campaign." Planned Parenthood executives in New York City released videotaped excerpts Wednesday of speeches by several abortion opponents at a political meeting of a Wisconsin group that advocates armed citizen militias. The mingling of anti-abortion and pro-militia groups increases the chance of more violence in the abortion contraversy, like the fatal July 29 shooting of a clinic physician and an associate in Florida, said Pamela Maraldo, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. But Trewhells said publicizing the video, in which he advocates firearms instruction for children, is a "perfect example of the new fascism that has pervaded our country." The video excerpts include a U.S. Taxpayers Party meeting in May in Wisconsin Dells. They were edited from 11 hours of tape showing anti-abortionists Trewhella, Randall Terry, and Jeffrey Baker, spokesmen said. ""Planned Parenthood, who teaches children how to use condoms, is concerned about me teaching my children how to properly use a firearm? Get serious," Trewhella said in a statement. Trewhella, a founder of Missionaries to the Preborn, is serving a 33-day sentence in Waukesha County Jail for disorderly conduct stemming from a Dec. 13 demonstration outside a physician's home in suburban Brookfield. In the video, he protests gun control and says citizens "should be forming militias" and teaching children how to use guns. He said his toddler son, Jeremiah, can identify his "trigger finger." Mary Briedis, idenitified in a television interview Wednesday as a Trewhella follower, objected that gatherings at a farm near East Troy were being described as militia training. The U.S. Taxpayers Party has qualified for the state's November election ballot and reports 500 Wisconsin members. Party chairman Edward J. Frami, 40, of Dousman is running for governor. Trewhella said he had signed a "justifiable homicide" declaration that critics say endorses killing abortion doctors. Planned Parenthood executives admit culling "the most egregious statements" made at the open political meeting as "evidence of a widespread association" between the right-wing anti-abortion movement and other right-wing groups. But Maraldo said there was no evidence to indicate that "any particular militia was involved in any abortion attack." The edited tape was turned over several weeks ago to Justice Department and FBI officials after a meeting with U.S. Attorney Janet Reno. 201434369420143436942014343694201434369420143436942014343694718
