That is why we quote so much. D> 1) It is indeed illegal to only offer full issue photocopies for free; That may be a legal opinion...but what was more important, that the information gets out there, or that you get money for your work? As far as anyone seemed to know, the publications were no longer being published...so it was either photocopies, or someone could have just paraphrased/rewritten what you said, and not even credited you at all. By photocopying issues, and charging only the cost of the copying, they kept the material in it's original condition, with all credits given. Since this is a computer medium, they could have simply scanned them into a computer, and distributed them electronically too. In which case, they would have been able to do so for free. D> 2) it is vile this was done publically by a moderator, not a mere user. Moderator's don't have a moral high ground, they only need the ability to keep a level head. According to what I have read, it seems that a "Reasonable Man" could easily conclude that you had either died, or had totally lost interest in the subject such that you were no longer making the publications available. According to the msgs here, it seems that you were not even responding to inquiries! Thusly, although Airmid & Co may be in violation of the letter of the Law, they were not violating the spirit of it. And a "Reasonable Man" would probably not find them guilty. They had no "criminal" intent. Photocopying is widely used in the acedemic community to exchange information from books and publications that are no longer in print. The nature of what was being done by Airmid was very much of a similar vein. I would say that it is "fair usage". If the publications *had* been available through other, fully legit sources, I am sure that Airmid & Co. would have pointed people there to get copies. I have seen this happen a number of times in various echos already. I would say that you have to decide which is more important to you...the dissemination of the imformation in those publications, the EGOBOO you get from knowing that people are reading the publications, or the money you made/make from selling those publications. Each of which has different implications. ttyl, Farrell 201434369420143436942014343694201434369420143436942014343694718 From: Farrell McGovern Area: Mundane To: Swift Lightning 4 Apr 94 14:36:06 Subject: Discordian/mooist Info UpdReq On Apr 01 00:46 94, Swift Lightning of 93:9301/0 wrote: FM>> >> farrellj@pinetree.org FM>> SL> Yes, but in these modern times...You can get the FM>> SL> Principia >> SL> as a text file off of Internet!
