We have the same problem here in Salem, Oregon. There are only two stores that carry the cards here in town, and neither of them can afford to order in great quantity. Between that and the fact that there is a long waiting list, there are rarely cards out on the shelves for impusle buying. I opted to join the Game Club. You pay $5, and they give you a discount on cards, and free shipping. It's not a bad idea, and they seem to be very nice people. They also sell all sorts of other related gaming supplies: role-playing games, board games, and more. They can be reached at 1-800-GAME-CLUB. No, I'm not a sales rep or anything, I just think they have a nice thing set up. Anyone who would expect the devil to show up by playing a game of Magic has probably never even heard of the game, as their attention is focused elsewhere. Too bad, too; they're missing a good game. I enjoy the strategy of building decks that will survive in a large number of circumstances. Almost all decks that focus will have a few weaknesses, though. I run a red/green deck that has a lot of quick-casting creatures (especially Kird Apes, from Arabian Nights, which do very well when you have forests down) and only a few high-powered monsters. I found that adding just a few white made the deck much more survivable. I also enjoy a white-artifact deck. This deck does very well in many situations. I haven't run into a deck that can defeat it regularly, but I can imagine several that would. My opponents haven't been lucky enough to come up with an effective answer. A local knight here (SCA) (actually The knight (expect for his wife) in blacksword) found a reference to it, but the specifics are outa my reach. That's about all I can help you with there.
