F.W. de Klerk conceded yesterday declaring that now all South African's are free. Mandela proclaimed victory himself stating that his people were now 'free at last'. Considering the somewhat socialist stance of the ANC, however, I wonder about the possible effects of this change in leadership on international relations with the RSA. I give de Klerk high marks for a gracious exist and for paving the way for what he had to realize would be his ultimate defeat. The House is to vote this week on assault weapons bans. The provisions that define an 'assault weapon' are: Detachable magazines Folding telescope stock Grenade launcher Pistol grip that protrudes beneath weapon Bayonet mount Fixed magazines holding more than 5 rounds Handguns weighing more than 50 ounces Magazines attached outside grip Flash suppressor Threaded barrel Barrel shround for 2 handed operation It should be noted that the any gun that has a detachable magazine and any other 2 from the rest of that list is considered an 'illegal assault weapon'. Hence, a detachable mag, bayonet mount, and a pistol grip makes something 'assualt'. This is just a wee bit broad in my opinion. 1% of the guns in circulation in the US are considered 'assault' in nature. The deadbeat dad in RI who stepped forward to claim part of his daughter's estate depite having owed more than $66,000 in back support dropped his case in exchange for release from prison. He was jailed for his owed child support. James Brindamour, the man in question, is a scum bucket. He should have been caned. Dr. Death Jack Kevorkian has been acquitted of suicide charges. Jurors displayed wisdom not otherwise visible in the Michigan DA's office when they decided that he acted to 'ease suffering' rather than 'end lives'. This decision essentially kills the MI law probiting doctor assisted suicide. This is one for the 'good guys', folks... despite the fact that I think Kevorkian acts more out of personal grandeur than much else. Parting thought...
