From: Cary Robyn Area: Magical Plants To: Phil Pope 3 Aug 94 03:51:22 Subject: Captain Rom Sent UpdReq I have not heard anything from Rom since before his hearing in early June. While I did encourage him to prioritize his scarce time instead of indulging in ninety page (!) handwritten letters under these circumstances, I fear that the total absence of communication suggests that the news is not good; reflecting either despondancy over a loss in court or another suicide attempt following the same. He considered it likely that he would be found dead in a squat. I hope this has not happened. Let me know if there are any further developments. 201434369420143436942014343694201434369420143436942014343694718 From: Cary Robyn Area: Magical Plants To: Deep Black 3 Aug 94 04:05:42 Subject: Re: Transcendental Objects Sent UpdReq I was referring therein primarily to the culmination of the Hippie phenomenon and the fulfillment of the promise evident in the better psychedelic shaman circles in the Neo-Pagan festival scene during the mid-1980s, using a bit of McKenna poetics to refer to the same. As far as promising candidates for the identity of McKenna's transcendental object, my best guess is that the 2012 event may mark the point at which Artificial Intelligence goes auto-catalytic and we get truly sentient machines with superhuman intelligence. Also a likely time frame for the resolution of the Malthusian crisis and associated planetary problematique through tragedy or triumph for life on Earth. My mushroom revelations include a sense that we are on the verge of an evert into mass conscious awareness of the strange order of being that sits astride our world; the integration of Upper Circuit functioning into the psyche of humanity as a whole, though this is regarded as more speculative than the other conjectures. As it happened, Starwood 1994 was less spectacular and less pivotal than I had hoped. McKenna gave an excellent talk, as always, and the festival grew to over 1500 attendees, but his presence there was somewhat compartmentalized and did not appear to influence the dynamics of the event as a whole. Shamanically, it was rather low-key and unfocused. The Zippies were already on the west coast and did not attend this year. I did manage to put together a nice display on the Eco-Futuristic Village topic -- three truncated tetrahedrons made from corrugated refrigerator boxes, painted and covered with photos and articles; a solar broiler consisting of an umbrella with mylar on the interior; and several new flyers -- which got a lot of people talking about the concept. Starwood is still the best platform from which to reach for Neo-Pagan community formation if they ever overcome the inertia that keeps them from attempting it. We'll see what comes back in the mail during the weeks ahead. I made a bunch of new contacts there and only time will tell how pivotal Starwood 1994 will ultimately have turned out to be. 201434369420143436942014343694201434369420143436942014343694718 From: Cary Robyn Area: Magical Plants To: Talis 3 Aug 94 04:40:38 Subject: Re: Pharmacotheon Sent UpdReq The plant Syrian Rue contains harmine, which is probably what was being discussed in his lecture. 201434369420143436942014343694201434369420143436942014343694718 From: Cary Robyn Area: Magical Plants To: Lisianthus 3 Aug 94 04:42:42 Subject: Grand Canyon Sent UpdReq Prior to their appearance in NYC, I had heard from a friend that discussions on the Internet indicated the event would be cancelled because the response to the Wired publicity was so large that there were fears it would become too mainstreamed and commercialized. The Zippies said it was still on. Another friend, who attended the national Rainbow Gathering in early July, said that it was not coming together. However, this too may be a rumor. I had hoped to attend and will post a message when I learn something more definitive from an official Zippy source. 201434369420143436942014343694201434369420143436942014343694718
