KB> hi josh! KB> i got the stuff you posted to me in the mail. THANK YOU!!!! Yer welcome. Pass it around, if you like. KB> so far, i KB> have one question for you. i believe that when you were KB> talking about the uses of the various calls, you state that KB> the first call can be used prior to using one of the calls KB> for the elemental tablets. i have also heard this from KB> someone else. yet, i've noticed that crowley says that the KB> first call should *only* be used with the spirit tablet, KB> and 'not at all' with the other 4 tablets. so, that leaves KB> me a bit confuscated. ;> Crowley's take is basically the G.D.'s view of the matter, more than a bit idiosyncratic. I've been doing it for years, and never noticed any untoward effects. When used with one of the other Calls, the First and Second Calls tend to increase the polarity of the response. The First Call will bring out the more "spiritual" aspects of the element, those that pertain to the macrocosm and to the spiritual being of the magician. The Second Call tends to bring about an emphasis on the structural organization of the Tablets, the official "positions" of the various angels. Using the elemental Calls without either of gives the most "natural" expression of the elements. To use a loose metaphor, when you use the First Call with an elemental Call, the angels act like they do when relaxed at home. With neither the First or Second Calls, they act as they do "in the field", engaged in the everyday work of their element. And when you use the Second Call, they act at their most bureaucratic, as if they were in the office with their supervisor looking over their shoulder. The one thing I would advise not doing -- don't use the First and Second Calls together. The effect isn't so bad when you're just starting out, but once you get in tune with the system, the extreme polarization tends to get a bit mind-bending. KB> where do you get the silver nitrate from? this doesn't KB> sound too terribly complicated. All chemical supply houses sell it. Better photographer's supply houses also have it. Drugstores sell it in solution, but you don't want it that way. KB> what do you use for skrying when you're doing enochian? These days, any convenient blank wall is enough. Usually the one behind my video monitor. Or anything else that provides a low, steady level of stimulus for my physical eyes while I switch my attention over to the "astral" level. KB> have you found that whatever you skry with for enochian KB> ends up becoming exclusively used for enochian, or can you KB> still use it for other types of workings? Back when I used a mirror for a focus point, I never had any trouble switching between enochian and other styles. It wasn't so much that the mirror became dedicated as that, after a while, I simply didn't bother with non-enochian workings. ... Man, that was a tough banishment... Frankly, I've never been into doing magick for the sake of producing physical effects either. Exploration, on the other hand, does make sense, even if it's for the sake of cheap thrills :) But seriously, can you say what sorts of things you've encountered? YOu got it! CP> Most people, myself included, start off by saying, "Well, CP> let's see CP> what it does" and trying out some scrying experiments. But the CP> Enochian CP> system seems almost Trojan-Horse-like in that no matter what CP> the user's CP> intentions were, they almost always seem to gain spiritual CP> insight CP> and/or actual initiation from using it. My own experiment with That sounds pretty good. Much like all of magick, though maybe more so. Which leads me to the next question: what are the dangers? Pardon me if this seems overly gunshy, but I have heard more anecdotes about people blowing up while working with Enochian than any other system I can think of. Do you think this is the case? If so, why? As you say, like all magick, you get out in relation to what intention you put in, and I can certainly doubt the intent of those I've heard mentioned. Still, when working on my watchtowers I somehoe got the impression I was working on a paint-by-number system of open-heart self-surgery... Maybe I'm being overly paranoid here. But y'all are the first people I've really known to any extent with real experience in the system, so I have to ask... 93/93 ,-----. . . / H \ -Ar Aakhu-t | H | horizon@fry.halcyon.com | H | \ ===^=== / `._____,' 201434369420143436942014343694201434369420143436942014343694718 From: Fir Area: ENOCHIAN To: Josh Norton 12 May 94 21:41:00 Subject: Your Files UpdReq Hi Josh!
