POINTS OF LIGHT is the monthly newsletter of TEMPLE OF THE ETERNAL LIGHT. It is an open forum for anyone to send in articles, poetry, short, short, stories, advertising or anything else. We desire it to blossom into a cornucopia of fact, or fantasy relating to modern magickal living, spiritual growth and a network linking all members of our human family by a chain of fellowship. With wishes for Love and L.V.X. Rt. Rev. Jerome Peartree, Publisher Rev. Chesed is ruled by Jupiter. On the Tree of Life, it is #4, Mercy. Its principle attribute is Expansion (Latin "to spread out") and Generosity (Latin "of noble birth"). There are four Paths connected to other Sephiras: Hermit, Wheel, High Priest, Strength. The High Priest is also called the Pope or Hierophant. The root Mercy comes from the Latin--merces --meaning pay or favor. Therefore, one can assume Jupiter is connected with wealth. Combining all these attributes of: Mercy, Generosity, and Wealth, the characteristics of Jupiter would be a person born of noble birth, wealthy and generous. Jupiter rules the King, Governmental or Financial ruler. A Jupiterian person is happy on the job, wealthy, and generous. Jupiter rules four-pointed and four-sided objects -- square, diamond, cross, tetrahedron. It is the natural ruler of element Carbon. All life, as we know it, that is, organic compounds contain Carbon. The difference between chemistry and organic chemistry is presence of carbon compounds. Carbon therefore, determines what is living and what is dead. Carbon is required to maintain life -- Proteins in DNA chain are carbon compounds -- amino acids. Carbon is the tiniest elemental building block for building anything. Jupiter rules carbon the element. A carbon atom can join with four other atoms to form a compound. Carbon creates a tetrahedron --a three-dimensional figure. Carbon is the first element to project itself into three dimensions. Energy is a four-sided figure. Coal, a form of carbon, an energy source, is a tetrahedron crystal. Before the abyss, nothing is in three dimensions. In Chesed, matter takes on three dimensions. Jupiter rules extension into four cardinal directions -- north, east, south and west. From Kether down, matter is becoming manifest -- it's finally becoming tangible, visible. Jupiter rules fire from Kether the sphere of the prima materia. As it enters into a plane where it becomes visible to us, it becomes matter, something we can touch. To a person going up from Malkuth, knowledge is gained with the realization of energy at Tiphareth. The use of energy in focus or directed energy, originates at Geburah, that is, a flexing of muscles. At Chesed there is also expansion. Instead of stressing at one spot we spread it over a larger area. In Mars, severity and strength are the attributes of attack and war. In Chesed, the opposite evolves: generosity, expansion, and mercy. These are the two functions of energy, expansion and contraction. Geburah rules contraction (squeezing). Chesed rules expansion (releasing) Energy becoming manifest in matter, takes on the four cardinal directions of: north, east, south and west. When man first realized himself, he realized he had four sides, front, back, right and left. In performing the Lesser Banishing (or Invoking) Pentagram Ritual, the circle is extended in the four cardinal directions. Man divided platonic elements into air, fire, earth and water. These were ridiculed as air, fire, earth and water are not elements. In 1975, there were discovered four types of energy known as: Quarks. Quarks are energetic material at sub-atomic levels. Quarks go in different speeds. There is a speed factor involved. Einstein's Theory of Relativity states: Energy = matter X velocity squared. So the four quarks which make up our life we pass to: a. north, south, east, west b. earth, fire, air, water c. four Tarot suits d. YHVH e. Grand Mandalas of Tibet and India --divided into four parts --initiates are brought in and instructed in their mandala -- every mandala is different for every person. The Lesser Banishing (or Invoking) ritual of the Pentagram (LBR is a combination of Geburah and Chesed, ie, five-pointed stars in four directions. The LBR also adds Tiphareth as you place a six-pointed star overhead. The LBR takes place in triad of: 5 4 LBR 6 It actually is the threshold of our lower self, Hod (8), Netzach (7) and Yesod (9) and our middle self. 8 7 9 We are in a middle area. A place between two worlds. One stands looking into the Abyss and also looking back at the past. This is why this ritual, when done correctly, is so powerful. The LBR deals with two forms of energy, contraction and expansion. There are also four phases that energy goes through, according to Wilhelm Reich in Bioenergetics: a. Mechanical tension b. Bioenergetic charge c. Bioenergetic discharge d. Mechanical relaxation Chesed rules "To Know, To Will, To Dare, To Keep Silent" four rules of a magickian. There is a fifth rule that underlies all of these -- the energy principle. Without this, none of the above can take place. The paths that connect Chesed are interesting. The Wheel of Fortune represents chance, luck, incalculable risk. Chesed also represents Reich's orgone principle of mechanical tension, bioenergetic change, discharge, then mechanical release. In ancient Rome, Jupiter also represented the God of chance and strange surprises. The four tantras of the Hindi allegorically talk about four different kinds of people, which represent four different kinds of energy. Although randomness can be defined and measured, no given number can be proven to be random. In other words one can define risk and randomness and things happening with no conceivable explanation. However, it is mathematically impossible to prove any number is random. It is a paradox in Math. We perceive something as chance at a certain level, at another level we no longer see it as chance. The Wheel of Fortune is below Chesed and significantly below Tiphareth also. Therefore chance shows an uninitiated attitude towards things that happen. The path between Chesed and Chokmah, the High Priest, represents "he who knows". He has already been initiated and understands things a lot better. He has risen above the abyss. From that point one realizes that nothing is chance or random. It only seems things may occur by chance, you have to prepare your perspective. You discover synchronicity. (In a certain family, a blackbird would appear at the window, foretelling a member of the family would die.) C.G. Jung, the father of Psychoanalytic psychology developed the theory of synchronicity. Synchronicity became the mainstay of Jung's theory. The path between Tiphereth and Chesed, The Hermit, illustrates a monk with stick and lamp. He is represented by Hebrew "Yod" . It is an origin of Hebrew letters as all Hebrew letters are combinations of Yod. Yod represents our concept of carbon. The path of Yod links Jupiter and the Sun which says: Jupiter gave carbon to the Sun. It shows this is a path of energy. The Hermit as a path represents this form of energy. Yod combines to form letters, which in turn form words, etc. One can create words from something small. It is the prima materia. Yod is first letter of Tetragrammaton. Yod represents the Father, the creator of all worlds. Yod represents spermatozoa. The form of the letter "Yod" looks like sperm. YOD represents wisdom, the highest form of Mercury. The symbol of Mercury shows the Sun extending into two worlds. It extends into the sky above and the earth below. It represents energy going in two directions. The Hermit also represents the Psychopompos, leader of souls. A Mythological name meaning leader of souls through areas of Death and the Abyss. The Hermit is a guide. He carries a lamp and is looking upwards at the energy burning in the lamp. The lamp is the symbol of potential energy or fertility. The Hermit represents Wisdom himself. As Diogenes carrying a lamp sought wisdom, your task is to find wisdom. Should one look outside, it may never be found. Should one look inside...Voila'. (Continued next issue)
